Heroic instances are by far and away the best method... Barring that, farming level 80 mobs is just about it.

Farming Eternals/Relic of Uldar is the best way for me. I do it in the fire ones in Storm Peaks.

Basically when I say
"farming"
I mean everything and anything that anyone could possibly come up with that involves killing a lot of mobs as fast as possible while trying to maximize your gold making, leveling, rep grinding, questing, etc, at the same time to make it not only level your pet, but provide some other incentive for doing it. If you still need Sons of Hodir rep, by all means, do your dailies. If you have skinning, farm skinnable mobs. If you are running heroics, bring your pet that needs to level. If you still have quests in Northrend, bring your leveling pet along... He asked what the best method was, I assumed he was level 80 and his pet was leveling from level 75 to 80, hence heroic instances is by far the fastest way to level a pet from 75 to 80.
If farming heroics isn't an option for some reason, any of the other things mentioned will not be as fast, but they are all about the same when compared with each other. Do whatever makes you the most gold while you're doing it or anything else you might need done. I think the biggest piece of advice I can give is to try and not pay attention to your pets level while leveling it, it can feel like watching grass grow sometimes and become frustrating. Zone in on what you're doing and ignore your pets XP bar...
