So i'm in a casual guild that I help regulate as an officer of sorts, but that's not the point. We have a limited selection of healers, which brings up my point. We have a 100% dedicated holy paladin who attends near every raid, which is one really good single target healer. So my chances aren't too great, and they all have been insisting I go holy to help with instant aoe healing.
But I love Discipline, so efficient, so fun, and penance is just great. I'm not really too great at holy honestly either, haven't played it in quite a while, so being more efficient isn't atop my mind.
So what should I do? I love the people in my guild, and I love Disc. Should I hold out for patch 3.1? Should I give holy a whirl for a while, or should I just stay disc and hope a holy priest joins our guild. Any opinions would rock, seriously.

Well I suppose holy is worth a try. And defining casual for my guild, is Sarth (sometimes a drake) on wednesdays, and Naxx10 or Maly10 on Saturdays. I would do Holy/Disc so much when dual-specs are released, but I want to be able to roll as shadow for solo intents.
So if I'm to give holy a whirl (I've kept a couple extra spirit epics laying about), any tips on how it may of changed since endgame BC, and refreshers on what's different? Because i'm 100% sure i cant use rapture and be holy at the same time, kind of kills the mood. Also, since holy has a beefed up Greater Heal, can't they just chain stopcast it for extremely well solo healing on Tanks, just as good, if not better than disc?

If they want you holy for raid healing you'll mostly be keeping renew up on people, keeping your pom bouncing, and using flash heal. circle and prayer in heavier aoe. If your raid-mates can handle clicking it lightwell is actually pretty useful.
I'm really not understanding why its such a big deal to some people to respec for a raid, I've never had a problem respeccing if it helps whatever guild i'm in out and the only time it annoys me a lil bit is if i'm being asked to change roles on the fly. (e.g go from dps to heals or tank to heals or heals to tank) If I have time to run a hero or something fast to get back in the feel of the skills and practice a bit i'm good.
They just need you to go from single-target damage prevention healing to raid healing (not that disc can't handle some aoe damage or that holy is unable to tank heal lol just stating spec strengths loosely here) It's not the end of the world and the game will let you respec back any time you want :/ If the gold is an issue then by all means ask them for some help with that, but is it really THAT painful to play a different spec?

Also, don't worry about mana regen. With enough Spirit stacked, you should be perfectly fine in raids, as long as there's a Paladin for Wisdom and the Refreshment buff.
I was Disc too, and I was loving it. Even on fights like Patchwerk, I NEVER ran out of mana. I never used my Shadowfiend to get mana unless I was heavily AoE healing or something.
Then I switched to Holy, threw on my Spirit gear, and I still found that I had high mana, even on the longer boss fights. Circle of Healing is great, because it's an instant heal for around 2k to up to 6 people (glyphed) and usually ALWAYS procs Surge of Light, if you have decent crit rating. (Heck, I've only got 18% and it procs almost every time.)
But yeah, for Holy, you'll be mostly using PoM, CoH and Flash Heal, and only using Greater Heal when the tank is taking heavy damage.

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm going holy for a week, I'll be attending our raids, and people will see my differences, If i catch on by the end of the week, I might stay holy, doubt it, but atleast i'm trying. And yeah, i feel like I just am a disc person.
