I've experienced bad players of all sorts, not just hunters. The majority of the bad players I've met are either rogues or death knights. Death knights are understandable since they start at a higher level with much to learn at the start, making it easier for players to get to level 80 and not know how to play. Rogues on the other hand is on equal ground as the other classes. Do I think rogues in general are a class played by bad players? No.
From my observations it seems that bad players are scattered over all the classes. Hunters may have gotten their bad reputation because it easier to screw up with a hunter than many other damage focused classes. The hunter mistakes I've seen have mostly been connected to either pet management, threat control(pet/misdirect/overaggro), or traps.
I have a hunter alt and people have always assumed I can trap, misdirect, kite, watch my threat, and do massive damage, all at the same time. I learned to do all this before I got into instances, but it's no reason to assume a player can master all of these things just because the class is capable of performing in such a way. That's why hunters are an easy class to learn but difficult to master. Most hunters know how to deal damage, it's when these other factors come into play that accidents happen.
I've met players with horrible talent specs, gear, rotations, etc. I've not yet seen any indication of hunters in general being worse.
Once, in Outland, I saw a DK who was having a hard time killing a mob two levels lower than himself. I checked his talents, and it was something like 5/8/9. After /facepalming a bit, I asked him why he didn't use all of his talent points - his response was "I don't need to, this is good enough for me."
Soon the general chat was laughing at his stupidity and he logged off :/
So you harassed a player until he logged off? That doesn't seem very polite to me. He may have been unaware of the benefit of spending his talent points, and while that is a rather funny mistake it's no reason to make fun of them. Excuse me if I'm mistaken and you didn't have anything to do with the chat.

I've read through all of these, and honestly, I'm upset that people see Hunters as idiots as a whole. Well, DKs too really. I have an 80 Hunter and DK, and have always been relatively smart about playing both (we all have bad days). For those that think all hunters are "huntards" just roll the class yourself and learn to play it. I'll admit, before I made mine, I felt the same way. I thought all of them had some kind of mental condition. But after playing it, I see that it can be done well, as most people i group with can attest. Yes dumbasses, I'm saying there are good hunters. Let that sink in...

hehe, i have a huntard moment too XD
My first char was a hunter, and i had absolutely NO idea how to play. I had some high lvl friends, but none of them had a hunter above lvl 15 so after that, i was alone. At around lvl 19, i began thinking that grinding was the easiest way of lvling, damn was i wrong. Also i had a huge argument wit a warrior when i was lvl 25ish, i said hunters were a melee class XD. Now that ive progresses thru the game, i look back at myself and think how much of a noob i was until lvl 35 XD. I now know how to lvl quickly (quest) know the difference between str and atk power XD. I have actualy never rolled a dk b4 and am probably never going to make one, becuz i do not want to be judged by my class just because people met idiots who use my class -.-. I am now a 75 hunter :D, i no enuff about my class to out dps most people in instances :D
