What you're talking about is why people hate on DamageMeters. It doesn't factor other players correctly, like ever. SWStats accounts for everything and compares data across a hidden raid channel. Convince them to use it before they bitch about who's on first.

i use Violation
Why?
why not? main reason is because it's Ace2. 2nd reason, i like it.
Ace2 isn't a reason for people to use an addon, its a choice made by the developer when making the addon, to quote the Ace wiki:
# Being "Aced" does not make an addon "better".
1. The code and the author make it better.
2. Choose the addon that best fits you. Try before you buy. If it's not Ace, then so be it!
3. A smaller addon is not always the best. Ace can be misused.
4. Efficiency is often a major philosophy of the Ace community - naturally, this may not always be achieved - again, it is a good idea to try several addons.
Reasons for using addons are efficiency, features, ease of use, looks etc.
~edit~ i am actually interested in the reason btw
Ace2 IS a reason I use it. All my addons are Ace/Ace2. reason? so I can update them with the Ace updater and don't have to go to countless websites.

To the OP
If you and all your fellow raiders don't extend your logging range then your meter is only capturing events that happen in a rather small 50 yard bubble around you. This is fine for most 5 man stuff but completely useless for Gruul.
Most (if not all) meters will synchronize themselves with other raiders logs to maintain accuracy but if you are using different damage meters then they don't always do this properly (if at all).
I find SW stats to be pretty useless as it doesn't show the results for just the last fight (please correct me if you know how to do this). I'm usually pretty uninterested in my damage Vs trash but do want to know how my spell rotation worked out in the last fight.
Either way, as has been mentioned before,
WWS
is a great tool that is worth the research and effort for good reviews of performance. For a quick on-the-fly reading then DM or SW are ok, Recount seems to me to be a sledge to crack a nut and wouldn't ask a whole raid group to use it. Generally: extend your logging range and all use the same meter.
:)
dmg meter doesnt pick up pet dmg if i am not wrong.....
Yes, it does, but as has been said there is an option to combine or split pet damage.

I personally find that Recap is one of the better damage meter mods out there. I just love the interface and how it tracks, well...everything. It even tracks buffs that people cast, though I'm not sure what you'd want to use that for.

I am currently using damage meters, and it does not only track pet damage, but gives you the option to add the pet damage to the pet owner's stats.
and is very much inaccurate... do the research... read the entire thread... thank you

I've been using Cosmos for quite sometime now and it's doing fine job. I'm not that anal about how accurate or precise it is basically I just use it to give me a general idea.

It's not the only ace damage meter (e.g. recount), but never mind. I think the main point is what's great about it? (apart from being ace since it's not alone in that) as in information for people reading this thread.
That was what I was trying to ask, but I gave up. It's nice to see I had a reason to give up :).
Basically, due to various limitations of the combat log and discrepancies of range and parsing ability are going to make every damage meter have slightly different values. In-game damage meters are basically just a rough reference tool. Some are more polished than others and some are more comprehensive than others.
