Perhaps I'm stupid but can someone explain the living seed change?

I really wish they'd give tree of life some basic soloing spells =/
Like, let the druid cast entangling roots and wrath from tree of life form =(

Savage roar changed from 40% AP to 30% damage. Hmm.

That's like saying Shadowform should be able to heal. Treeform is a healing-form. It has nothing to do with killing stuff.

33% bonus armor on the Survival of the Fittest talent. YUCK! What the hell are they... Oh well. At least Savage Defense looks promising enough (mainly against raid bosses) to offset the major armor reduction. The extra +2% all stats from Improved MotW will also help a bit.
And no more AP bonus from Savage Roar, changed to +30% physical damage... I guess it means that bleeds will not be buffed anymore now? Not sure. So agility / crit will be the main DPS stats, strength had its hour of glory. But still, bleeds that critically hit - sure looks like a nice sustained DPS increase.

A couple things to say.
1) Feral is getting some nice things, though they have missed some of the big ones.
a) Infected Wounds proc'd on Swipe
b) Innate problems of Savage Defense
c) Lacerate is still $%^&.
d) The tree is still bloated.
2) Balance and Restoration Druids are getting NERFs while Death Knights, Ret Paladins, and Rogues are getting BUFFS.
a) Owlkin Frenzy sucks even harder than it used to (hard2believe).
b) Abolish Poison got nerfed.
c) None of the thousands of issues we've posted on various forums have been answered with an experimentation at best.
3) Our most effective burst healing (Regrowth) just got nerfed when our burst healing is the worst in the game (less healing, longer cooldowns).

Yeah, no more wet pants about seeing 4000+ crits on Rip ticks or 4500+ on Rake. But anyway, with this little talent point they have improved feral sustained DPS quite a bit.
Math math math math... So, assuming some rounded values of ~9000 AP (passive) for a well geared raid buffed pussy cat, we are looking at (Mangle is active):
1.
Rake
that ticks for 1205 and critically ticks for 2410. If the talent and meta gem that influence critical damage bonus work for bleeds as well, then we are looking at 2723 critical ticks. So over 9 seconds, Rake can do anywhere from 3615 to 7230 (8169) damage. Hooray!
2.
Rip
(detailed formula is for 5 CP) that ticks for 1280 and critically ticks for 2560 (2892). So over 20 seconds (considering glyph and 2xT7 bonus), it does anywhere from 12800 to 25600 (28920). Compared to the current fixed value of ~16500 that it does with ~15000AP (Savage Roar active), I say it is a MAJOR buff (an average of ~21000 damage over 20 seconds with ~50% crit chance, which translates into an approximate 28-30% increase). Wakka wakka wakka!

I have only one thing to say, Aadramelekh.

*edit*
Guess I'll start farming Jewelcrafting-mats for agility-gems now then. Oh well. Shame the Agi/Stam-gem hasn't been implemented.

Mangle was already included,
parrazell
. And somehow I don't think Savage Roar will influence bleeds. Because the +30% buff to physical damage done is roughly equivalent (even a bit better) to the previous +40% on AP, if it is applied to bleed damage as well, that will probably put pussy cats right on top of the food chain on the DPS charts. I don't think they (Blizzard) would do such an OP thing.
But no more assumptions... Let's do some math.
Shred
! The 'laz0rpewpew' main combo point builder of pussies.
With Savage Roar and 12600 AP (up from the passive 9000 I considered before, no trinket or enchant procs and stuff), shred does now 4703 normal damage (Mangled and bleeding target) and 10628 critical damage (properly talented and gemmed).
With the new version of Savage Roar (+30% physical damage), we consider 9000 AP and we have: 4940 normal damage (Mangle and bleed active) and 11164 critical damage.
Basically the +30% physical damage Savage Roar will provide a 5% increase to physical damage compared to the current state of +40% AP.
So our melee swings, Mangle and Shred (which together make up to ~65% of total damage) will get a 5% buff, and bleeds get an approximate 30% buff (if we consider Savage Roar NOT to affect them). This is already a pretty consistent buff to sustained DPS. To be more precise, an average DPS increase of 12% - 14%. Basically that would mean that instead of
672801 total damage (4616 DPS)
I would have obtained ~767000 total damage (~5260 DPS). Phat DPS if you ask me.
Therefore I do not believe Savage Roar will increase Rake and Rip by 30% as well. If that would be the case, the total DPS increase for a pussy cat would float around 23-25%. Totally OVERPOWERED.

Well I do not have some official Blizzard source saying that Bleed Damage is essentially physical damage. But since the clear distinction is made through words (for instance, take
Forget that. My jaw has dropped. I found this source on the issue of
Bleed Damage
which confirms what I was thinking also but was not completely sure of. So in essence, Bleed is a damage over time debuff that deals physical damage.
I think I came in my pants again. So it appears that pussies ARE getting an average 23-25% increase to their DPS capabilities. Once again...HOLY CRAP!QFT
PS:
The new version of Savage Roar is ~5% more powerful for Melee Swings, Mangle and Shred. Let's see how powerful it is for bleed effects...
Setup: 9000 base AP, Mangled target, Glyph and 2xT7 bonus.
Savage Roar +40% AP results in 12600 AP. Rip does 1513.2 damage per tick, 15132 damage over 20 seconds.
Savage Roar +30% physical damage. Starting from base 9000 AP, Rip does 1279.2 damage per tick, 12792 damage over 20 seconds. Increasing that by 30% results in 1663 damage per tick, 16630 damage over 20 seconds.
So the new version of Savage Roar is ~10% more powerful for Rake and Rip. Keep in mind, this is only a comparison for the base power of Savage Roar, NO Primal Gore talent taken into account.
I'd say it will scale much better than the +40% AP version. Why? Because in the previous formula, only the AP component of damage was affected by Savage Roar. And Melee Swings, Mangle and Shred all have their damage calculated from a portion of total AP plus some constant values, as follows (110 is the base 'paw damage' for pussies @ level 80):
Melee Swings (also considered 'normal damage', abbreviated ND): 110 + 7.14%*AP
Mangle: 2*ND + 635 = 2*(110+AP/14) + 635 = 855 + 14.28%*AP
Shred: 2.25*ND + 742.5 = 2.25*(110+AP/14) + 742.5 = 990 + 16%*AP
What do we see from here? The current version of Savage Roar is buffing only the AP related portion of these attacks. The new version will buff the FINAL values for those calculations. Which results in the previously calculated 5% increase for Melee Swings, Mangle and Shred plus the 10% increase for Rake and Rip.
I am pretty convinced this is the ideal formula, because it scales with the final value (AP + constant) of the abilities, not only with the AP portion of it. Blizzard finally tuned pussy cat DPS to the level it should have been.
PS2: For the fun of it.
I calculated that, with Primal Gore, Rip does (at 50% crit chance) anywhere from 12800 to 25600 (28920) for 9000 AP. If we apply the +30% Savage Roar bonus... It does anywhere from 16630 to - hold on to your butts - 33280 (37596) damage. Once again...HOLY CRAP!QFT. Hallelujah!
