If i don't ask for it, it's a tip. If people refuse to tip me, i charge them. I don't charge much, but i do it after i've crafted their item so that they can't ask for their mats back and go to someone else. It might seem rude, but then again these are people that can't tip someone for doing something that they can't.
That's not rude.
That's %^&*ing extortion, jack ass.

If you really feel the need to make money from your profession and feel the need to make money EVERY time you craft something for someone then you need to set a fee BEFORE you craft the item. Holding an item ransom until someone "tips" (which is actually a charge now that you are demanding it) is not cool. And I'd bet it's a very select few, if any ,coming back to you. Crap like this usually gives yourself a bad reputation and soon you got half the server avoiding you and you won't be getting anymore tips anytime soon.
Seriously, how hard is it to establish a fee beforehand instead of just expecting every damn player that falls into your little trap to tip? I'm sure half the people don't give a damn how hard it was to level your profession cause they probably have a profession of their own.
And it's actually a little beyond rude.
Yeah pretty much what I said + this.

I can't imagine its not a violation of TOS to craft something for someone and not give it to them. It's basically like just stealing the mats. Why not just save everyone the drama and charge a crafting fee instead of being such a passive-aggressive psycho?
This is why whenever I need something done, I'll just ask trade channel "/2 LF enchanter with <random enchant>, 10g, pst." Usually, I will get several ppl pst me right away. I find that it's much easier to get things done quickly if you offer a clear incentive.
Stealing a persons mat is no way violation of the TOS. It has happen to me, someone took my mats and just logged off. According to a GM, all mats, items, and characters belong to Blizzard this means you have no possession over any of the following stated above. If that was true, it is just merely transfer of items from one account to another of the same owner, Blizzard. If you don't own any of the digital data, then there will no claims of stealing. As far as I know, GM will not reverse the trade should that scenario should happen.
Again, its all about the reputation. Tipping in my opinion should be a portion of the money you would have saved by having the raw mats converted into the final good.

Stealing a persons mat is no way violation of the TOS.
According to
TOS
, users may not:
"Participate in any action that, in the sole and absolute opinion of Blizzard, results or may result in an authorized user of the Game being "scammed" or defrauded out of gold, weapons, armor, or any other items that user has earned through authorized game play in the Game."
If you ask me, claiming to do work for free and holding on to items until paid or logging off with items/mats is fraud. Whether GMs feel like being helpful is a different story.

On my blacksmith I am asked all the time to craft the newfangled epics; the 3 different types of maces and the healing, dps, and tanking helm/boots. I invested a lot of time and money into blacksmithing, especially before wrath came out when i only got money making enchanting rods. I didn't pick up 2 gathering professions, or drop the dead weight for a useful profession. I expect compensation. If i don't ask for it, it's a tip. If people refuse to tip me, i charge them. I don't charge much, but i do it after i've crafted their item so that they can't ask for their mats back and go to someone else. It might seem rude, but then again these are people that can't tip someone for doing something that they can't.
One example i have recently occured. A level 74 paladin asked me to craft 2 of the healing maces. He traded over mats, i crafted the items, and went to trade them back. I thought it was odd, so i asked him why he wanted 2 of them. When his response was that his friend wanted one and he'd auction the other, i didn't mind at all.
But then he didn't tip, and i was !@#$ed. He buys mats, has me craft something, and wants to make hundreds of gold in profit off of it? At this point I told him that since there was no tip, and he wanted to exploit my blacksmithing skill, there would be a charge. He complained he didn't have enough money, so i COD'd the maces to him for the charge that i thought was appropriate. It wasn't a huge charge, about 10% of what he'd have profited.
It might seem rude, but i have people come back to me later for more requests; they usually come with a tip too. Beside that, i have to make money somehow as a lazy prot warrior, and i figure that the resources i poured into blacksmithing should be accounted for when you're talking about the simplicity of pressing a button.
ok if you did that to me i would make sure to ignore you tell everyone i know to ignore you
that is not asking for a tip thats stealing the mats and selling the crafted mats back to you
i would also open a a gm ticket to get the maces back
its people like you who make me mad

Funny how people just notice that people are asking for tips but never think about why people are asking for tips. lol the reason why people now ask is because before no one asked and a bunch of cheapskates who were not specifically told to tip dont tip at all. Trust me if everyone on earth decided not to tip anymore, it would only be 1 day before all the restaurants, maids, valets, ect... started telling you to tip :)
And then it would be one day before they all went out of business.
