QTF.
To the first page post about moderating curse words if you turn the filter off that is your own issue. And there is a reason for why Barrens is so unruly. To many players not enough GM's.

Umm... I can understand why they didn't answer you. If I put in LFG or spam general LFG for 'X', I respond to whispers. A random whisper when I'm doing something else and may not want to do an instance? My lack of response IS your answer. You should at least say "No, thanks.". Is really that hard? Of course FIRST I spam in trade and ask people in LFG, but if I still need someone, then I start to whisper random people. And answers are always nice, even if they are a no.
I probably would answer if anyone ever asked me... I'm just pointing out that many people may not respond to a random tell even if they're normally polite. In this case, they're not being intentionally rude. I've been ignored by guild members; not intentionally, but they were busy killing things when I whispered them and they just didn't see the tell.
For sure this happens a lot. I've gotten whispers while tanking Sartharion and a drake up or even while I was in a particularly difficult fight in Naxx. What do you think my guild mates would say if I said after a wipe "sorry, I got a whisper to run HOL and I didn't want to be rude and not respond"?
I'm not a rude individual by any stretch of the imgaination, many times while flying over an area, if I see in general chat that someone is looking for help to finish a group quest, I'll help. I just can't stand people who don't look at where you are before sending you random whispers.
Just so you know, there are mods that automatically wisper every toon based on your filter with same message. So say you're looking for a tank, you could wisper every paladin+warrior+DK+druid in entire outlands with: Do you want to tank Heroic VH?
The mod essentially checks for all toons in all areas with some level requirement, and performs that auto-wisper.
When I get random wispers I try to figure out if it's a person wispering or a mod. If it's a person I try to reply, if not, I don't. But you can't really tell from the wisper.
People with that mod don't expect to get 200 'no' responses, they are looking only for 'yes', than they start armory for each 'yes'. And if you are in Naxx or any other raid, chances are you got wispered by a mod, or a very inconsiderate person.
But why are people jerks? Well Steven King has a book 'The Cell' (i believe that's the name). In the book any person who picks up the phone gets all his memory erased, so they are left with no social skills, no fears, nothing they learned - they are "clean" in a sense. At that point they become very violent and kill pretty much anything that's still not like them (whoever didn't pick up their cell yet).
So where-as there are claims that deep-inside all people are good. There seem to be an opinion that deep-inside all people are evil. And it seems that anonymous nature of internet is proving this claim.

in the same way country towns have friendlier people than large citys.
Where the hell did you grow up? My small town was full of small-minded, ignorant, racist asshats who told a random African-American gentlemen who stopped at the gas station just passing through that he was lucky it wasn't bear hunting season or he might be used as bait.
And no, I did not grow up in the south.
Romanticized ideals of small downs make me physically ill.
