While "Love is in the air" was on, there was an achievement where you had to cure the broken hearted with Friendship bracelets. One guy was spamming trade "I need to mend hearts COME IF BRIDGE!". I decided to help him (I already had the title so what he said after was so idiotic) and told him: "Accept my group invite and follow me, I'll talk to the guards and each time I get broken hearted you'll mend me, no need to run around asking people". His reply "You %*^&in freeloader do you really think I have time to waste with you? I'm in a raiding guild I dont have time for noobs like you".
Biggest jerk I ran into until now, makes me think twice if there's a point in playing a multiplayer game when you can't see anything behind epics and l33tness.

The trade channel on Argent Dawn is full of rude and racists comments and it's supposed to be a Role-playing server. Maybe too many people's avatar is a jerk or racist? I don't even bother asking questions in Trade or General channels anymore, I just do some Google searches and read up on it on my own if I don't know something.
Everyone was a noob at WoW at some point that I can guarantee, and you always have to keep that in mind. Maybe they have some pent up anger when they first started playing and they were called knobs.
Just be quick on the /ignore, and leave it at that. If I happen to post something on /1 or /2 and any rude or off-topic replies I get... say hello to my ignore list. Someone ninjaing a loot /kick and /ignore. Someone linking Dirge on /1 or /2, "report spam". Someone posting many duplicate messages on /1 or /2, "report spam".
Report Spam is a great tool as it doesn't fill your ignore list, but the person is also ignored.
The other side to posting questions to /1 and /2, is when you get a helpful answer, add them to your friends list. I sticky a note, saying "helpful person" or something. Been grouping later with these people in instances.
Don't let one bad apple or few apples ruin your Wow experience. I bet there are more nice people than there are rude people.

Really rule of thumb for the internet is 1 nice person for every 5 people, the rest tend to be mean/nasty/whatever.
Ignoring them is your best bet, But you know you can never really get rid of them =(

quantity != quality
when new players ask questions about gear/game mechanics in trade i send them here or wowwiki.
But because you are already here...I am confused why you thought that you would get any useful information from trade/general chat.
Whether the replies are good or not, the only people that answer are those trying to inflate their own egos.

you forget my fried that a number of 12 year olds with to much cash or (rich babyes) have started to play wow the problem is that everyone thinks their superior if they got a full tier 7 char and level 80
the other day i was asking a few guildies how old are they and 9/10 answered (12) ! ! and the tenth 13 X(
anyway thats the problem of humanity we don't help eachother

Newbs = People just starting out on WoW, and still getting to know the game. They will have a few questions about their class, etc so be nice and help them out by answering their questions. We all started somewhere =P
Noobs = People who think they know everything and always think they are right (when they usually don't). Ignore these people. Don't listen to them. Carry on playing your toon and have fun =)

You don't need a better explanation than that.
