So I was catching up on Cracked, and they had an article about the 5 most baffling genres of romance novels.
#1 was "Centaurs."
I'm not going to comment on the existence of Centaur romance novels- I'm just going to let the fact that they exist speak for itself.I read that too.
And I actually saw a really weird f/f Centaur romance fic on a different site shortly afterward. It was bizarre.
What the actual %^&*.

So I heard something on the radio today that I was really surprised by. One of the radio stations out by me does something called the Couples Court, where couples have the audience vote on a disagreement they're having.
Today, it was about a father and a mother who disagreed about what to do for Christmas. My area was hit pretty hard by hurricane Sandy, and this father wanted to make a point of this holiday taking all the money they normally would have spent on presents, as a family, and donate it to people who had lost their homes or suffered major damage during the flood, and then he wanted to spend the day doing volunteer work. He thought it would be the right thing to do, given the situation in the area, and a valuable lesson for the kids to learn about giving to the less fortunate.
The mother said it wasn't right to take Christmas away from the kids. She wanted to do normal presents and holiday activities for them, but said she'd donate some time another day.
The audience seemed outraged that the dad wanted to "take Christmas away from his kids," and when they told him he lost, you could hear it in his voice that part of his faith in humanity had just died. He didn't seem upset that he lost- he seemed upset that so many people were so focused on the material things that the kids were missing out on, and no one took a second to think about the kids of the families who would be helped, or the value of this kind of a lesson in terms of building character and teaching your children what it means to care about other people.
I was pretty surprised that so many people seemed so against what I would consider an obviously good parenting move. When did we get so much more concerned with making sure that we gave our children I-pads, and less concerned with making sure we gave them character? If you look at things like facebook, we're raising a generation of self-entitled ***** in this country, who rage about how much they hate their parents because they still have last year's I-phone, or they aren't being given a car when they turn 16. And this was a parent who for one holiday, one time, in the wake of a local disaster, wanted to teach his kids how much it means to give to others, and show them how much something can mean to someone who has lost a whole lot, and he got slammed for it.
I really don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I just have the sniffles and sneezers right now. I'll more than gladly give you what's to come. I don't get sick very often during the year, but when I do it's terrible.
Edit: and now that work is over, I'm going to combat this sickness by killing the germs with vodka and strengthening my immune system with orange juice.
