I never understood this. Not just with you. But in general, if someone doesn't play the game the entire site was made for, why bother using the site? If I quit playing WoW (not going to happen) But if I did, I wouldn't keep coming to "Wowhead." I mean is the community feeling that great?
I don't mean this as a fight either, I really truly want to understand the logic.
We came here because we played WoW. We stayed because we liked the community.

This furthers my point. Participation in WoW is nearly a requirement for a high reputation in Wowhead. Though, you could still be highly reputable with the community, without having a high wowhead reputation. Thus, I don't feel it is a very good tool.
Not really MyTie; I do upload from the Wowhead Looter, but that's only 50 rep in a week. Most of mine is from reports in the last few months.
Back in the day(can't believe I just said that) you'd get rep for upvoting comments, but that is gone now and you'd lose rep for people down voting you.

but that is very much because I don't play world of warcraft

I really really enjoy this community. I think everyone here is quite remarkable. The people here have a diverse and open way of discussing such an array of topics, that it has made me a better person by being here. I have defined my views, and changed them, as I grew in understanding about people. Although no one individual here is particularly closer to me than any other individual, the entirety of the group is very near to my heart. I mean what I say when I say that I love the community. I love every member here, even the vitriolic, spite filled, haters. Even the people who have always hated me, and hate me now, and will always hate me. I think that the place is a place where I have learned about myself, and the world around me.
To narrow the focus of this community to "world of warcraft" is unnecessary. Think about the topics that are on the front page. Homosexual marriage. Racism. News Articles. These are just a few topics that have caused me, and I suspect others, to grow. It's means so much more than World of Warcraft.

My opportunity to get a lot of rep came and went before they even brought rep in. I've written 3 holy priest guides - one of which has
over 55,000 views
, but they were done before Wowhead brought in the guide feature.

Remember though that Wowhead has a few different spheres of "community", each relatively independent of each other - or at least, it's a Venn diagram with many circles, some of which overlap to differing degrees while others are wholly separate. OT is only a smallish section of the forum which itself makes up a very small amount of the visits the website gets. The forum is the most clearly defined community in that it's the one that best caters to direct communication between lots of users but it's not the only one.
Not that I disagree with what people here are saying about reputation as a concept. I just wanted to add that this is a site that is many different things to many people. For most of my time spent participating in Wowhead's community I posted almost exclusively in the Warlock forum and occasionally in Feedback. Wowhead was where I looked up quest information, made talent builds and talked about Warlocks.
(I got up over 400,000 views on one of my Lock FAQs but scrapped it and started afresh when Cata came out because of the major changes).
(correction: it got up to 683,699 views. I'm actually pretty darn proud of that now I think about it ^_^)(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

Yeah. I'd imagine the
vast
majority of hits this website gets are for the database and the database only. Almost every WoW player uses Wowhead. Only a very small amount (maybe 2000-3000) use the forums.

What asakawa said.
I live in off-topic. I only venture into other parts of wowhead when off-topic directs my attention to them, and even then, only rarely. I genuinely dislike world of warcraft. Off-topic is dedicated to things not having to do with world of warcraft. I like to joke that the only topic that is not acceptible in off-topic is world of warcraft, because that would be very on-topic.

Just saw the season finale of Legend of Korra.
Needless to say:
Mind = blown.
I was slightly disappointed over one teeny tiny detail, but otherwise it was amazing.
Too bad the seasons are so damn short now =( 12 chapters is far too few for a 20+ min show. The previous show about aang had 20 episodes per season.
Dexter had 12 episodes per season but those were 1hour episodes. So its not really the same.
I'm hoping they keep making more and more sequels about future (or even past) avatars, because quite frankly, that show is simply the sheer solid definition of awesomeness.
Having said that, I'm amazed that they managed to get away with portraying a Murder-Suicide between 2 brothers
ON SCREEN. ON A CHILDREN'S SHOW! ON SATURDAY MORNING.
I'm not complaining (ohhh no) but I am amazed they were able to get away with that. Considering how zealots the censorship moral watchdogs can be in the US.

I think rep is not a very good way of measuring community trust. I mean, if I played world of warcraft, I could post a bunch of screenshots, and get a bunch of rep, but people would still trust me as much as they do right now. I could have 1 million reputation, or negative one million, but is it going to make any of you think differently about me? Highly doubtful. It's just a number that wowhead uses to try to get users to participate in a positive way, by uploading screenshots, making useful comments, reporting abuse, etc. It's not a reputation for you and the community, but a reputation with you and the entity that is wowhead. My rep is very low compared to other users who have been here as long as I have, but that is very much because I don't play world of warcraft, and thus don't contribute to wowhead's other areas besides off-topic. There is no mechanism that gives rep for participating in debates, or the things that I do. That's why reputation doesn't matter to me. It doesn't measure anything meaningful to me. If someone has a lower/higher rep than me, it doesn't matter, much like someone's post count doesn't matter. Interest has the most post count as anyone, but if his participation in a debate thread could be outshined by someone who just made their account 15 minutes ago and makes their first post.
While true, I still would like to have the accurate value Wowhead put me at.

While I don't think it was a bad ending in any way, it was slightly disappointing for me due to how neatly everything was solved. The original show had a lot more struggle in order to fix everything, and even then, left a few threads loose, this one was perhaps a bit too neat.
It could had been worse I guess.
One way the ending would had been more palatable would be if:
Aang revealed to Korra that only the avatar could remove bendind permanently, he makes her all glowy-like, and after going out of the avatar state, Korra can actually bend the other elements but just a weeeee little bit. Like move a few droplets of water. Showing she can rebuild her bending even if she has to learn everything again from scratch. This in turn would lead to korra serving as a spiritual guide to the benders who lost their powers and teach them how to gain them back.
Instead, not only she got them back just like that, thus nullifying all the drama and plot relevance of what amon did, but also she can restore the bending of everyone to be just as it was before.
Its kinda too clean. I know the first show did something similar (Aang suddenly opening his seventh chakra, and entering the avatar state during the fight with ozai just because he hit himself with a rock kinda counts as a deus ex machina) but at least it was a happy ending that was not entirely clean.
There was still a world ravaged, there was still zuko's mom missing, there was still a fire nation devastated, ect.
Still, I'm not
too
disappointed about the ending, because despite its flaws, its still a very enjoyable ending. Plus General Iroh II is most definitely worthy of his name.

I don't know, Noatak, a.k.a. Amon, could still be alive after all. He is one hell of a blood-bender, he could probably tell that Tarrlok was doing something and could have got away before it exploded. I tried looking for a trope for it but couldn't find one about the bad guy "dying". They only had the mushroom cloud, they didn't actually show them dying.
Anyway, how I thought it was going to end was that Korra would have to travel and learn how to bend all over again. With her newly acquired air-bending and ability to contact the spirit realm, she would go to each of the last avatar's homes and learn how to bend. Something about their spirits are strongest at their homes or something requiring her to travel around. But that would be to much like the first series so it could just be them rehashing ideas lol.
But like you said rankk, since Korra got her other 3 elements back as well as keeping the air- and energy-bending as well as being able to give the benders back their abilities, there isn't much I can think of that will be there for the next season.
Oh and rankk, take a look at
The Promise
. It'll be a 3 part comic book talking about what happened after the war ends. Only the first 2 parts are out so far and the 3rd will be out in a few months. So far they talk about how they want to restore peace but some colonies don't want to. And they also talk about Toph starting her metal-bending academy. Don't want to explain much else, but it has been said they will talk about what happened to Zuko's mother. And it is written by the same people so it isn't some fan's idea about what happened.
I also hope they mention who had a baby with Toph.
Spoiler topic ahead. As in the next few post if people really talk about it.
Did anyone see who Amon really was coming? And I want to know if he used a type of energy bending to take others bending, or if he use his ( mayor spoilers in the next word if you have not watched it) blood bending to damage the brain somehow?
Sorry to lazy to do the nice boxes.
It wasn't really said out-loud, but many believe since he was such an adept at blood-bending that he used that to take away their bending. I was thinking that it might have something to do with the chakra paths as well. Like how the chi-blockers could hit certain points to render benders useless. He used the blood-bending to block up those points. Like how Aang had all that energy around his lighting scar, and once it was hit it was unleashed. Once Korra had he regular paths blocked, it also opened up her ability to air-bend. At first I also thought that was why she was able to interact with the spiritual world, but later Aang said it was when they're at their lowest they are able to interact with the past avatars. And since Korra was like that, she was able to meet the past avatars.

I think Amon was someones puppet and there will be more to come.
Of course he was, given that his entire backstory was proven to be a lie. We still don't know when or how he learned how to block chi, nor where did he get the initial wave of supporters (an underground move of such as scale as the equalists would had taken no less than a full decade to build from nothing)
The best speculation anyone can come up with, is that bloodbending+chi blocking = permanent de-bending.
In the end, its one reason Amon is a very interesting villain, because just like "The Joker" on Batman, there is no motive rant, there is no sobbing backstory (The one he gave was a fake) and there is no explanation. He simply is.

I honestly hope they don't. That scene was one of the most emotionally powerful scenes I've seen in animation, and it would be ruined if it was all for nothing.
Oh and rankk, take a look at The Promise.
xD I've known about that comic for ages, the first part was released even before Korra started airing (I even linked 3 pages of it here on the bin)
All in all, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, is a very worthy successor of the previous show, and while very different in scope, it doesn't diminishes the quality at all. Plus the animation MY GOD THAT ANIMATION.................
If you don't go "Holy Sht" at least once per episode, you are not alive.
Edit: Ohh and BTW, Asami's reaction to the fact that she was actually eating GARBAGE is
Priceless

Right now, I'm just wondering where the plot is gonna go. Obviously she will continue to improve her abilities as the Avatar, but is there gonna be some new villain? Or maybe Amon survived somehow? That's what I'm wondering right now.
And does anyone know when season 2 starts?
