I still can't make sense of basically anyone's past in FF7. It's pretty much incomprehensible. :/

Wait till you play Crisis Core; then, Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, and Zack makes sense, and you get to see Seph before he goes completely ape *!@# insane when he was actually a jovial fellow....oh and Yuffie is in it too.
But Barret and Cid's past are pretty normal, Cait Sith(Reeve) is standard, and only Vincent has the twists and turns.

They still make no sense, even post-Crisis Core. I mean, the likelihood of everything that happens to Cloud alone happening to one person is just...
probably beyond the realm of physics

Well, the same thing can be said for Cecil, Terra, Squall, Zidane, Yuna/Tidus, Ashe, and all of the characters of FF13 heh.

Yuna's not so bad, maybe Tidus, disagree with Ashe and the cast of FF XIII. It's only Vanille and Lightning that are broken birds at the start of it. And they get better
much
easier than Cloud did. :P But yeah, tragic backstories are like a staple of Squee.

Well, with the Mako experiments and watching your best friend/hero die, that would break anyone; Cloud is suffering from PTSD for a large portion of the game, till Seph mind rapes him into thinking he's a failed clone and drops him into the Lifestream; then his mind finally 'fixes' itself, but he's still suffering from the guilt of Aeris dying, which is resolved in AC. Crisis Core is actually semi-creepy to play, since you see Cloud as a young slightly idealistic sort....right up till the trauma conga begins.
And Ashe is being led around by the Big Bads for so much of FF12, it's hard to not feel for her.
As for 13; considering what most of the cast of does over the course of the game, they all have issues heh.

I mean, seriously, I'm surprised they didn't give him a puppy just to run it over in front of him.

Yeah, they go through quite a bit of #$%^ (all Squee characters do), but it's nowhere near as egregious as Cloud's traumatic past.
Your parents dying and being forced into a parental role at 16 is tame, considering it's the same company that came up with Vincent and Cloud, same as being forced to fake your own death at 17 after being widowed and orphaned just to keep a rebellion running, is my point. :P

You're not supposed to say names Adams. Mine was a hypothetical question about a non-specific situation.

Heh, hey I'm not disagreeing they went whole hog to break Cloud and Vincent...but that's actually a good thing, since it does allow for a little character growth...sadly though, said growth was in the rest of the universe rather then the main game itself; after all, Cloud's epiphany that he's not alone only lasts till the Geostigma shows up, where he makes the choice to isolate himself, thinking it's the 'better' one, no matter how much Tifa and Marlene tell him to stop being stupid.

Everyone knows who you are talking about heh.

ohh meh head :S
I most definitely ain't cut out to stay up all night anymore.
Stayed playing SWTOR all the way till 4 Am xD but I got mah ship. Its so gorgeous, and as someone who played and enjoyed Star Fox 64, I gotta say the space combat was highly entertaining. It provides a nice break in the pacing when you're tired of killing mobs.
Loving SWTOR all the way. But seriously Elhonna, the Veela server is a graveyard :S
I was 40 minutes on the fleet asking for anyone to come with me to Black Talon and got nothing, and there were some level 10s and 11s there, Ditto for Dromund Kaas, only like 10 people or less, and if I asked help for a heroic quest, just crickets chirping.

We picked it during the beginning of the game. We haven't moved because we have a couple of high level toons, and I mostly solo now anyway. I have to say, though, that the fleet is generally a lot more active than you described- at least for empire. Generally there are like 60-70 people on there whenever I check. It may be that playing at 4:00 a.m. is not the best time to get the peak population.
But I have toons that level, and Skithus may be making one, and we have never had any trouble 3-manning level appropriate instances before level 35 or so, so we can knock a lot of that out.
