I've only very recently started being happy with myself at all. I spent most of my teenage years hiding the fact that I wanted to be a girl. I had a pretty strong religious upbringing, so, that certainly didn't help that issue.
I'm an introvert by nature to begin with, so, years of self-imposed isolation as to not out myself just made it harder for me to open up.
But those are all excuses, all things considered, I'm trying to open up a bit more. :D
Yeah, it's a vicious cycle. You feel you are different than the rest, and you seek for their acceptance. In order to do that, you gotta open up. But you fear that you may get rejected, because society is close-minded, and hence you end up hiding your true feelings.
That's why I'm happy for Azazel, because he found people who accept him for what he is. I gotta say, I could be a bit introverted as well, but I preferred to be open, then see if I get along with the other person to see if I can keep relating to him/her.
Well, all I can say is that, as well as Azazel, I'm really open-minded and that you will keep finding open-minded people that will accept you. The first step, in my humble opinion, is to open up though.

hey tartonga, I'm curious, what does your sig means?
And Milayu, fear of rejection is something everyone faces, regardless of their condition, religion, orientation, gender, or nationality. We all want to be accepted, and of course, we're afraid of not fitting in. Its important to try though, better to know for certain than live with the doubt for the rest of your life =)

Hey there. It means in german: "A good paragraph is like a female skirt: long enough to cover the subject and short enough to keep the interest".
Pretty cool, huh? :P

if that was a bumper sticker I'd have one on my desk whenever someone at my bank has a complaint xD (Though i'm not usually assigned to customer attention unless we're understaffed)

Yup! That's why I've been trying to. Of course, being transgendered is a bit more taboo than most subjects, so, I don't feel that my reluctance to open up too much about it is -completely- unwarranted.
ohh believe me, I know.
I know its not the same thing, but my little brother is gay, and he was SCARED SHTLESS to come out of the closet (Homosexuals are very discriminated over here). Took him pretty much a decade and a half to finally have the courage to come out, and while he has faced the harsh reality of discrimination, overall he's happier than he's ever been before when he had to pretend to be something he wasn't in order to fit in.

Speaking of which, I'm extremely pleased with the reaction I've gotten here at Wowhead. Only one person has been outright hostile on the issue and, well, they've been gone for quite some time.
well, what can I say? you're a very nice person, smart, attentive, and at times, funny too.
Orientation or gender has nothing to do with it, so those factors about you don't change regardless of what revelations we have about you =D

This. It's all pretty much this.
Milayu, you are thinking too much about what the society expects from you. What's forbidden and what's not, what's taboo and what's not. But... not all groups of people are the same. Maybe it's taboo to be in your condition for some people - probably adults - but as far as my generation of people who are just entering to their 20s, it's pretty normal to talk or be friends with gay people or any other kind of condition. Times change, standards change. Maybe you feel you can't fit in in today's society, because it's mostly ruled by close-minded people, but that's because you are looking at it from their perspective. And also there are people from your age who suffer the exact same problem as you. You just gotta find them.
You. Can't. Ever. Be. Alone. In. This. World.

Like rankkorr says, you're both nice and intelligent (and you play LoL - that's like a +10 in my book) - I honestly don't see why anyone would care about sexuality over personality.
I must repeat Funden's question, though: who was being openly hostile?

I've never understood how somebody got the idea to discriminate based on sexual orientation..
