What I find interesting about Wowhead's moderation is that (I think we've mentioned this before a few dozen pages back?) the mods actually make an effort, I think, to be humorous when locking certain posts and performing general mod-duties. It goes a long way to improve the general atmosphere on the site; and it can be pretty damn hilarious.

I think what helps is that a lot of the mods aren't quite as uptight, for want of a better phrase, compared to other sites. The mods are generally just other posters volunteering to help, and most if not all are involved with the community as a whole. Not all of their posts revolve around being mods and trippin' on the power, it's just posting crap in the Bin with normal users, like normal users.

I think it feels like the mods are all a part of the community, instead of the police force for it. It's like they're that cool babysitter that used to hang out on the floor and put together Legos with you, and not the one that sat on the phone with her boyfriend watching Beverly Hills 90210.
On a totally unrelated note:

What might help you get along with them (this goes for everyone, even me), is to just take a chill pill. Remove your emotion, take a step back, and deal with the situation from an impartial and dispassionate position.
Probably the best piece of advice there is. When posting, when replying, when debating on these forums. If you do this, chances are there will be less need for us to step in.
As moderators we even need to do this from time to time. Just take a step back, breath, and then come back and see if we do need to take action or not.
I think it feels like the mods are all a part of the community, instead of the police force for it.
I think it has a big part to do with the fact that we are volunteers. We don't get paid for anything. We even can't participate in wowhead contests anymore. So there needs to be a certain dedication to the site itself I think.
Not all of their posts revolve around being mods and trippin' on the power, it's just posting crap in the Bin with normal users, like normal users.
We all started as normal users. And its nice to see that everyone on the mod team still thinks like a user.

Hat

Semi-related, mods on this site are more strict than on any other forum I've ever been on in my life
its better than the anarchy from other forums were there is little to no moderation at all. You want this to become another 4chan forum? or something worst like the official wow forums?
Internet equals anonymity, and anonymity tends to bring out the worst in people. Most of the time, even the nicest people, in light of having anonymity, can behave like complete jerks, knowing that whatever consequences (if any) for their actions will be limited to their "online" lives. Its called the "
G.I.F.T
"
This is why strict moderation is required. I think the mods here are just fine. They crack the whip when they have to, but (as proven by that awesome mod pyramid) are not stiffs completely devoid of any sense of humor.

If you think these guys are strict, check GameFAQs. Even referring to illegal activities can get a lock.

I think this'll do. ;)

I didn't even know GameFAQ's even had a forum, and I used to use that all the time.

It's so weird when a site you almost always use has features you don't realise until you're like "oooooooooooooooooooooh forums". :D Happened to me with tvtropes the other day. >.> I'm not very attentive.

I don't know if I want to stray from WoWhead. The only other forums I have ever looked at are Bioware and SWTOR. SWTOR is just, well...not very productive. Bioware Social is much better in terms of finding something to read that's not just complaint after complaint, but no real deep discussions going on there.

Well, yeah, a lot of forums suck. I generally stick to wowhead and blogs... and sometimes read tvtropes' forums. I've never actually posted there.

well what did you expected? :P MMO forums are ALL just a cesspool of complaint after complaint. It doesn't even matter WHAT the developers do, SOMEONE will always complain about it.
Blizzard could, for example, as a token of gratitude for all the loyalty displayed by their customers, mail 1000$ USD to every single player who's been active since the game started.
Cue people crying that they are showing favoritism, and that if you started in TBC/WOTLK/CATA/4 hours ago, you are as much entitled to that money as well.
IF they decided to give 1000$ USD to EVERYONE, so that everyone is happy, the polar opossite will happen.
Cue people crying that newbies don't deserve any money and only people who's been in the game since vanilla/TBC/WOTLK/Start of cata deserve that money.
In some ways they remind me of the Citadel Council from Mass Effect 1. Ohh killed the rachni queen? you racist bastard, you enjoy genocide don't you? killing a poor endangered specie just like that.......... wait a second? you actually let her live? ARE YOU CRAZY? how many generations will pass before they invade us again? you selfish prick, dooming the rest of the galaxy out of some sort of murky sense of morality.........
Take it from me, I've spent some time in the official Wow forums, Lineage II forums, LoL forums, and SWTOR forums, and they are 99% made-o-whine. Its why I'm searching for an alternative SWTOR forum to discuss the game, OTHER than the official forum. Sadly the Torhead forum is not very active yet.

Case in point with the whining on Official MMO forums:
Blizz posted another screenshot-of-the-day for MoP.
this one here
http://us.media.blizzard.com/wow/media/screenshots/screenshot-of-the-day/cataclysm/martindog22281u-full.jpg
pretty simple, just a temple, and a forsaken with new chinese-looking gear. (And to be honest, only the hat looks chinese, because the rest looks like your average mage robe we've seen a billion times already)
Cue people imidietly nit-picking that the undead ins't using any new models and as such blizzard is lazy because they can make new models for NPCs but not players.
Then cue another group whining that the forsaken is photoshoped into the picture because he has no shadow and has a strange black edge around it.
and finally, we get this:
"The undead go chinese, blizzard seems to be trying to force a little culture on us"
/facepalm.
CANT YOU PEOPLE BE HAPPY FOR A CHANGE?

I don't think the mods here are strict at all. In case no one has noticed, they gave a lot of "offenders" multiple warnings before they were banned or suspended.
