If you keep drinking caffeine, you become desensitized to it. I honestly think that relying on coffee is a bad habit =/IN THE NAVY

Words can not describe how happy I am after watching Digimon Season 1, then half of S2 I discover the movie is in traditional anime style!

Because celebs are 'hard' news and you can just ignore the unsettling information about the civil wars happening in other countries.
I can't. Further, I loathe what it is in human nature that allows people to ignore suffering of others.
I was reading the article about the two journalists killed in Homs and how it's really horrible and all, and wondered why it took the deaths of two foreign media people for the world to really pay attention to all the other deaths over the last while.

China and Russia voted against UN action to stop the bloodshed. In today's age, how are those governments still in power? In today's age, how does half the world get away with oppressing its citizens?

Money? Land mass? Natural resources? oh....and nukes....lots and lots and lots of nukes.

"How are they still in power"? Are you suggesting the "free world" should go over and sort them out?
McDonalds in Beijing is the way the world actually plans on trying to affect change in China. The hope that trade will erode that wall between China and the rest of the world. It's slower, for sure, but less people die (except from obesity-related diseases suffered due to consumption of BigMacs).
edit:
Also, regarding anger at the "news" showing more about "celebrities" than actual news - it's because of the same thing that makes your country different to China. Your news channels want eyeballs looking at them so they give the people what they want. The "people" want that sh...stuff ^_^
In this country we get a lot of complaints about tabloid journalism but we're responsible for their content because we buy the dreadful papers (not me but we as a country buy way more "red tops" than broadsheets).
All I can say is thank Odin for the BBC. Yes it's
weird
and anachronistic to have a nationalised TV producer that we all
must
pay in order to own a TV (politically it's not something in which I'd be in favour at all) but the news is fantastic.

<Insert political statement>
<Insert rebuttle>
<Insert another pointless argument>
<Absolutely inevitable detour into semantics>
<Compare opponent's argument to Nazi tenant>
<C-C-COMBO BREAKER>
<Insert mod lock>
And this, is the average politics/religion/abortion thread.

Sounds like fun! I'm having a bit of an annoying time trying to stitch a panorama at the moment, but I'll be sure to post it when I'm done.

Sounds like fun! I'm having a bit of an annoying time trying to stitch a panorama at the moment, but I'll be sure to post it when I'm done. It indeed is fun! It is quite a rare sport, even in Finland, people generally prefer skiing to it. But I prefer this by far since I've got 4 kilometers from here to the nearest skiing track, and the surrounding forest is perfect for snowshoing.
I got this handy app(called Nokia Panorama, waiting for "lol you use symbian in 2012" comments to roll in) in my phone which helps to align it properly. I think the result is decent for a handheld, but then gain, lightning conditions were superb.
Oh, and it makes its own panorama as well, but I am not interested in that. The result generally is quite appalling compared to PC software. :p But yeah, the dynamic range of it is quite bad (
another example
).

Would you want the UN clamping down on police during the UK riots the other year?
Intervening in any domestic conflict sets a very dangerous international precedent. The fact that the US has continually done this over last century is not necessarily something to be lauded.
I'm happy to take this argument to another thread if anyone wants to continue, but for now, I'll stop OT'ing the RB.

Sad to say, but I downloaded an awesome app called Pano (on the Android platform) that lets you take multiple pictures with your smartphone / tablet and stitches them into a panorama for you. I've got a copy of Lightroom, but it's just so much easier to do it on the phone :P

Yeah my phone has horrible DR too. I generally try to photograph with my DLSR unless I'm somewhere that it's really not feasible to carry it.
