Maybe we should start a thread about stupid things people say? It might be funny, or it might turn into a flame fest....
I think they're called rage comics. :| And if a thread like that was created, it would be longer than the Bin >.<

Teacher: According to science Scandinavia is the safest place in the world when it comes to natural disasters.
Girl: But, what about all those volcanoes in Norway?

@ Azazel- I will admit I am a little bit of a snob when it comes to stuff like this. When I see college aged people struggling with concepts I had down by, like, age 12, it irritates me.
Me in a nutshell lol. People need to learn to &*!@ing spell at some reasonable level of consistency, for instance.
This too. I mean, this is my second language and I'm better at "your" and "you're" than some college graduates. I don't understand how people mess that up when it's their primary language.

I know. In SWTOR, I accidentally ended up on the unofficial French Canadian server, I think. About 25% of the general and LFG chat happens to be in French. And almost every time, someone- usually several someones- decide they need to rage and condescend against people for speaking a language other than English. And they do it with the most un-punctuated, poorly constructed, misspelled, grammatically incorrect English you can imagine. I can't understand how anyone who has not taken the time to even learn their own language with any degree of proficiency feel that they are somehow superior to people who have learned 2 or 3 languages. Human arrogance about human ignorance amazes me.

Yeah. I think everybody (in the civilized world anyway) should learn atleast one more language than their own country's.

I love language. And not just foreign languages- I love my native language as well. I think how you say something is just as important as what you're saying. The right metaphor, or rephrasing, can take two debaters who are at each others throat and help them see where the other one is coming (if not agree with them). The the ability to know right turn of phrase, or to quickly make wordplay associations are essential for a good sense of humor, IMO. Thoughts and ideas are only as powerful as the words that exist to express them- no matter how insightful you are if you don't know the right words to express it, or your audience doesn't understand the words you're using, your ideas die with you. If you understand multiple languages, then you're broadening who you can learn from and teach, how much material you have to draw from in terms of humor and creativity, and how easy it is to understand concepts and ideas as they are expressed. People who are proud of their ignorance are sad, because they don't even realize how much they're missing.

Not a single typo.
It's beautiful. ;_;
As for myself, I never took the time to learn Spanish. I kinda regret that now but I still don't regret taking Japanese. I'm not well-versed in it but I still have a grasp of the language.

I took some Japanese in college- it was fun, but as soon as we hit Kanji, I was out. Too much to study on top of 15 other credits and a job. I went back to French instead for the rest of my college experience.

T_T this attitude exists in wow as well.
you would not believe how much flak I took when I was tanking on the LFG with my toon from the latin american realm, (Ragnaros)
As soon as I entered, the whole group would go "/groan, yet another idiot latino, lets just kick him before he wipes us"
nevermind that I've always been an exelent tank, and a TOP DK.
its one of the reasons I don't play on ragnaros anymore, the racism and discrimination when entering random BGs and Random LFG is just outrageous and blizz does nothing about it.

beautifully said =D
I can speak 3 languages: Spanish as my main one,
Wayuunaiki
as a second language (That's the language of the native-american tribes still living in venezuela, on my mother's side, 50% of my family is native, so I grew up between both languages) and English as my third language.
but my level of expression in english isn't anywhere near what I'd like it to be =/ many times I've wanted to express an idea or an opinion and end up using basic words that are (really) taken from my pocket-dictionary.
but I do agree with this specific line of what you said:
If you understand multiple languages, then you're broadening who you can learn from and teach
ever since I've took the time to learn english I've broadened considerably my level of expression in spanish, by taking into account multiple books, films, and games in english that I wasn't able to quite understand before.
and no, watching those movies or reading those books translated isn't the same thing, because a lot of things often get lost in translation. Try reading Don Quixote in spanish, and then read it on english and you'll see how inevitably the quality of the book suffers (Same can be said by reading Tom Sawyer in english and then spanish, the translation really hurts that book a lot)
:P I've said this several times but DAMN you really have a NICE eloquence, and I'd kill to have that level of expression in english (So far, you and skreeran are the most articulated users I've seen in wowhead) =D
I literally hear people misuse the word literally every 5 seconds...*

Ironically, most english-speakers also don't quite grasp what Irony really means.
Which is ironic in and on itself >.>

Hmm, speaking of unusual experiences in class, I remember a tutorial group from my first year where the tutor asked a guy if he wanted to join in.
The guy responded saying "You can't control me! Why are you targeting me like that!" (paraphrasing, they had a short exchange... we were actually doing something quite interesting and the whole class got on well).
The tutor was just kind of dumbfounded and let the guy sit there in silence for the rest of the tutorial.
When we were walking out of the class, the guy asked me "I wasn't being unreasonable back there was I? I'm still quite high from the party I went to".
