Everything
you
do an say too.
You don't think your own comments have every alienated people? This is something of a 'casting the first stone' situation I think ^_^ I've made inflammatory remarks in the past, but it isn't
everything
I do, and I try to avoid making inflammatory remarks unless I see no other way to make my point, and my point is necessary. Just because I am not perfect doesn't mean I can't expect better out of you.Anyway, that aside, the question of whether it's okay to criticise religion is one that played out with the Danish cartoons depicting Muhammad. I see there was a reaction to them and I think that reaction was disgusting. "Blasphemy" is a constructed system of protecting something from criticism and that just isn't healthy. I think the reaction was disgusting too. It is in no way excused. At the same time, it was pretty disrespectful of the cartoon. Neither was right. The "wrong scale" is obviously higher for the Muslims that burned cars, rioted, and murdered UN workers. I think that the cartoonist should be free to do inflammatory things, just as I believe you should be allowed to do inflammatory things. I don't think you should, though.I never intended to insult people but insulted they are so I'll do my best not to make it worse.
It's really not about you. It's about the attitude you express. How many times in that thread has my firmest beliefs been mocked with hokey examples? It's not needed. People will keep doing it and doing it and doing it, though, and I suspect I'll be putting up with it till I die. You made yourself a target by trying to defend it, or at least, excuse it. If you want to act like that, go ahead. It's pretty average. Par for the course. But don't tell me it's all cool to compare a religious belief held by billions to harry potter on a broomstick, and then say that if people have a problem with it, that that is THEIR problem. It's beyond insensitive, and the definition of unnecessary.

I've seen the Ten Commandments; if I had never read the Bible(which I actually have) does that mean I get to make white board comments about it because of that movie?
Saying "Harry Potter is about killing Voldemort" is hardly an off the wall 'white board comment'.But saying that's all it's about is.

Good thing I didn't say that. It was a summary. Notice that I did the same for the Bible. I didn't say that was the Bible's entire contents, but I believe it is a good summary.

You can't account for every reaction. You see my comment as obviously inflammatory, I see it as a way to make my point. We use analogy constantly in forum discussions. Why is religion special?
Because, from my point of view, criticizers tend to use the most unlikely and insulting comparisons possible, to show how little they think of religion. We get it, you don't believe. You don't have to make every post an insult.

The problem with some religious people (note the word "some") is that they will try to force their religion down us atheists' throats. Telling us that we are horrible people cuz we don't believe. It's a way of fighting back.

Like has been said here a hundred times before; the situation is the reverse IRL, most commonly. On the Internet, at least here on Wowhead, atheists seem to outnumber religious people. While I like to think I do not bash religion here on Wowhead, I do get bashed for being an atheist IRL - and I can see how other people in similar situations would use the oppurtunity to talk down on religious people.
Not implying it's okay, just saying.

So you fight back against the people that aren't doing it? Isn't that a little hypocritical?Like has been said here a hundred times before; the situation is the reverse IRL, most commonly. And I get that, (as I've been in the same position).

Yeah. It's an opportunity to 'even up'. It's sad really. Same thing happens with racism, and not just in the US.

I personally don't, as I see no reason for unnecessary hate. But it's probably a problem of generalizing and all.

Fun fact: A big whale lets out 20 liters of sperm when it ejaculates. Ever wondered why the ocean was so salty? :D

True. Sorry for implying you did (was just using the royal "you'). How do you circumcise a whale?
You don't.

That was a mental image I did not need.
