She never did make it clear if Hagrid was English, Scottish, Irish or what heh.
Does it matter?I've always wondered is all.
He's got a Westcountry accent, which is
really
clear in the films. That's English.

But what accent did Rowling imagine him having?

Westcountry, most likely. That's how it comes across on the page.

I read it as Scottish (before the films came out).

Hmm, interesting. :P I can
definitely
confirm (from having to speak in a West Country accent for a play when I studied drama) that it's West Country - even without having watched the films. Oh, and I checked on the HP wiki, and he was born in the West Country, so yeah. ;)

Lol, okay.
(I'm a Brit and well aware of both accents and common phonetic ways to represent them in prose. It's not surprising that the author was going for West Country but it wasn't entirely clear from the writing... s'all I'm saying - though Hagrid != Irvine Welsh ^_^)

Good morning!
It's that pretty much everyone here agrees with you, so you're just preaching to the choir, for lack of a better term.
That's the biggest problem I have with this forum, everything has to be a competition or debate or an argument. Even My Little Ponies. I probably should have expected that from a forum full of guys =P If I say something here that everyone agrees with, it's not to preach to the choir or prove a point or argue something, it's to find solace or support among friends. But I guess I'm expecting too much of anonymous people over the internet if I'm trying to find friends.

Not at all, we're all quite friendly.
Except most of us ^^ No but seriously though, I think people have grown so used to debating and snapping at each other that they expect every post made to be something that's meant to incite discussion.

Welcome to the Internet?
Can you not be a jerk for once in your life?
Probably not, since then I'd explode due to a back up of bile.

I know exactly what you mean, and I'm sorry if I appear harsh, because I'm not meaning to be. I just happen to be blunt and vocal. Most of the time.

It's okay :) I have a propensity for making emotional mountains out of molehills sometimes, so I'm sorry for that.
