I love to walk into a conversation were we are just bashing my country!
Well, it's true. I was deing Algebra 2 years before I got into the Algebra program in the USA... and here it was a big deal because I was "advanced".
Anyhow, Hyper... I love your story thread. It is the most non-sequitour abomination I've read in a while, but it's very entertaining.
Because you were advanced placed in Algebra means something is wrong with the US?
I want to try out this new method for logic!
Because mice are smaller than me, I should make more money than Bill Gates.
Because I own a computer, I need a cup of coffee.
If you are having trouble making sense of something I am saying, don't worry, Egypt is a country in Africa.

Hyperspace: People are stupid. Not Americans. Big difference there. And taking what looks like mainly cases out of specific regions and then saying "oh, well, that must apply to everyone" is a fallacy.
It's not a fallacy, nor is it even my idea. Read the article. It's the basis for the whole article which was entitled "American Public High School Stories:
A Microcosm
" of all things.

Sammy is no more
For what he thought was H20
Was H2SO4
Ouch, that sounds painful.
I remember making sulfiric acid in high school chem. Boy we had a blast in that class.

There are two people I really looked up to growing up, and high school teacher who taught chem (and physics and geometry and calc and history) was one of them.
I can honestly say I learned more in my high school chem class than in two semesters of chem in college.
What we did was instead of dumping us into modern chemestry we actually started from the begining, doing the early experiments that alchemests were doing. And instead of giving us the modern names we cam up with names that described them by the properties that we were discovering. As we did more and more experiments we were able to deduce more and more and come up with more and more accurate names for the chemicals.
I remember a couple names vaguely.
Dark cuprous earth = copper sulfate
Light cuprous earth = copper oxide
Moonshine = silver oxide (I think)
etc.
It's amazing how much you learn when you're the one doing the investigations.
Edit: Oh and our first experiment in that class was epic. We took blow-torches to limestone, essentially recreating early lime-lights. Then we dumped the product (quick lime) into water (I think)...damn that was some serious &*!@.

Practice moderation in all things. Including moderation.

1 − 2 + 3 − 4 + 5 − 6 · · · = 1/4
The infinite sum of alternating integers equals 1/4, which is not an integer.

Cool, an anomaly in a pattern. Happens all the time.
