In the midst of a recession it is possible for people to look desperatly for a job that simply pays minimum wage and not be able to find one. Does that mean those people should get 40k a year and benefits? No. But they should have access to food and shelter no matter what.

The problem is that most Americans have been "trained" (brainwashed) to believe that Socialism is eeeviiilllll. There are many examples of ways and places where socialism works. For instance: countries with socialized medicine: everyone pays their taxes and get "free" health care anytime any where regardless of their income. Welfare as it exists in the USA is not intended to create hobos but to prevent them by giving the poor a chance to get off the street and get their lives back on track; but many people do abuse it. Socialism is intended (when working properly) to keep people on equal footing- so that rich bastard down the street doesn't get the best of everything while you and your family rot away digging ditches.
Socialism fails when implemented by corrupt governments. It is also failed by corrupt capitalists who crush the "eeeviiilll" socialists and steal their wealth.
Ask the Cubans if they are disappointed with their socialism. And I mean Cubans who live in Cuba not the Miami ones who were exiled (of course they hate it).
Ps- I'm talking out of my ass- but stop fearing socialism! My child was born into the US already in debt to the hospital (corporation) where he was birthed and government (capitalist war mongers).

I work over 40 hours a week, go to school full time, single handedly monitarily support my family, and I'm still poor enough to qualify for welfare.
I don't accept welfare.
Why not? The cost of me accepting welfare causes a greater loss on the economy than what I recieve, thereby lowering the value of the US dollar. In the end, I'd just be making myself poorer.

The dollar is only as valuable as you choose to make it. It's a piece of paper... it's not backed up my gold or silver or anything else.

The Fed. I'm not even going into the ethical dilemma there.

Capitalism= Steal from the poor give to the rich.
Socialism= Everyone is poor but together we are rich.
Communism= Shut up and get back to work!

Eh... was that supposed to be a rebuttal of my statement?

Capitalism= 85% of people are poor
Socialism= 98% of people are pathetically poor
Communism= 99.9% of people are so poor they are dieing of starvation

I was partially agreeing with you.

Wrong. Just look at what happened to the value of the Confederates money during the Civil War.

Because people choose to put artificial value in currency. It's paper with pictures on it. The sooner people realize that the sooner societies can achieve social equality.

Money needs something to back it up with, or it is just paper. The fed works off of insurance based on the value of the american economy. The confederacy money would have had value, had they won. They didn't need gold to back them up, because they had speculative value. Once they lost, the probability of the confederacy went to 0, so did the value of thier government's currency.
I don't like the idea of using speculative currency. I prefer it to be based off of gold because it is more stable and less likely to be used fluidly by the state.

So you're saying money is the only thing that keeps a government together? No wonder you don't like the idea of socialism.
Also, why do people value gold? It has it's uses in electrical wiring and stuff, but just like paper money people put an artificial value in it... it's only worth something because people choose for it to be worth something. In the past people used salt as currency. Is salt highly sought after now? No, because although it has it's uses, it was only valuable because they people at the time chose for it to be.

No Laihendi. Money is not the
only
thing keeping a government together. However, without its own currency, it will fall.

Currency means nothing unless people choose for it too. If people didn't put value in money (money in general... not just the US dollar) then there wouldn't be problems with people not being able to afford housing, or food, or any other things.
