We're going to need
way
more information and actually
see
these changes on PTR before we can make any real judgments... I am liking some of what I hear, but /facepalm-ing other things. I guess we'll just have to see.

As for the ammo changes, very welcome change to me (Not that paying for ammo was too bad, it was a small pain though.)
One thing that would be intresting to see is maybe specialised ammo. I'm thinking somewhat like a rogue's poison in that you can chose specific ammo based on the situation, just a couple ideas they could do...
Peircing ammo: Ignores x percent of targets armor.
Explosive ammo: Deals an additional x% of damage as fire damage to the target
Concussive ammo: Has an x% chance to knock the target back y yards
Rifle ammo: Increases your maximum range by x yards and your chance to hit by y%
Obviously this is just an idea I had, I think it would make hunters more intresting by giving us some more customization options though.

How is engineering harder to level?
Engineering isn't harder to level. You're just left with more unsellable and personally unusable 'junk'.
A problem with the engineering profession is that for many items the user requires a certain level of engineering, so that only the creator and other engineers can use the item. Bullets are one of the few things non-engineers can use, so that bullets are one of the items engineers can actually make money from (in theory at least). If non-engineers no longer need to buy bullets, the bottom falls out of the market for bullets.
As a hunter I like the fact I might no longer need to walk around with 2800 arrows/bullets taking up space in my bags. The ammo pouch/quiver problem can be solved by making it a trinket or adding it to the slot where now arrows are loaded (the word escapes me for the moment). Ranged weapon-users now just load the arrow/bullet into that pouch/quiver/slot, reducing the number of bagslots to the number of different arrows the player wants to take along. Makes it feasable to actually take a gun and bow along.
As an engineer (not my hunter) I'm annoyed by the fact many items can't be used by non-engineers. The solution to the problem that engineers lose an item that sells, can be solved by lifting the eningeering restriction for some other engineering items.

Ancilorn of WoW EU Forums posts:
"In our 3.1.0 class updates post, we had announced plans to remove consumable ammunition from the game upon the release of the next major content patch. Our original plans were to change ammunition so that hunters would no longer need to utilise bag space, while adding some new functionality that would continue to make ammunition a compelling element of game-play. Unfortunately, this intended change will not be completely ready in time for patch 3.1.0.
We still fully intend to move forward with this change when the additional functionality becomes available, and for 3.1.0 we still intend to remove the need for pouches/quivers by greatly increasing the stack sizes on arrows and bullets, and the haste bonus from the bags will be preserved in another fashion. We'll be sure to inform you of further updates once they become available."
Oof... kick to the crotch. Delays and broken promises already.
At least we'll still gain most of a bag, looks like. If they bump the arrow stack to 1000 or so, you could use 6 slots of a bag on ammo and still gain 14 slots over what we have now.
Looks like I'll still be making mammoth cutters for awhile, though.

It's never made sense that quivers take up a bag slot.
How hard would it have been to make a seperate quiver slot somewhere?

Keeping the 15% ranged speed bonus is easy, really.
When the time comes to remove the need for quivers, you can;
Give enchanters a new enchant; Enchant Ammo for 15% ranged attack speed. Just make the mats cheap.
Give hunters a passive ability trainable at level XX that increases ranged attack speed by 15%.
Move the passive bonus from the quivers to the ammo itself.

Im really not diggin the ammo changes. I'm no roleplayer, but the forthcoming lack of consumable ammo just dosent
feel
right. Sure WoW is a fantasy based game, but to me, ammo is raw - its not wands we're shooting.
