I understand where you're coming from, but the system is intentionally designed so that it's really easy to downrate a comment, and hard to write one that stays on the page. That way only the best of the best stays up there. If you're looking to have conversations, or ask questions, or otherwise make comments that aren't purely informative, then the best place is the forums—where comments CAN'T be downrated. :)

It's a bit like saying "As long as you keep your eyes open and pay attention just like me, you'll never get mugged. By the way, I've only ever left my house 4 times in my life".
Basing any opinion on a tiny sample size is silly.
It's still the truth in this case. Take a look at mine, and even the number of them which are now purged or deleted (most of the deleted were what I did to myself :). In fact, the fact that I have ones which aren't displayed anymore should say how much value the system has. People uprate the stuff they like, and downrate the stuff they don't, and then we end up with the cream-of-the-crop (most of the time, unlike
this page
, which suffered 800 comments at a point about 2 weeks ago...).
