Should balance/resto druids be allowed to roll on cloth
Return to board index

My thoughts? A druid should only take cloth upgrades if no one else in the raid can use that gear.
Why? Because the leather gear will come eventually at which point the druid will have first go at it. There's a ton of gear out there, no need to start taking gear from classes that can ONLY use the cloth.
I guess I'm just a team player. I would gladly pass on cloth gear to Mages/Warlocks/Priests if they can use it. If not, then I have no qualms about equipping cloth, but I won't take it out of the hands of classes who can only use cloth. I pass because I know there are leather caster drops that are made for me and they will drop eventually. Maybe later this raid, maybe in next week's raid, but it will drop.

As a druid myself, my opinion may be a bit biased, however, yes they should be allowed to. The amount of leather pieces nicely itemized for balance druids in particular is incredibly low. There are a few pieces like the shoulders from heroic obsidian sanctum that are perfect, but almost everything else has a ton of spirit on it. Spirit isn't a major stat for us, even with the 15% spellpower conversion of it.
We should be able to roll on cloth simply because for the most part, it's better than leather. Some of the same applies to resto druids, though there's a lot more resto leather out there.

This is the way all guilds should do there rolling when it comes to armor..
Plate
Warrior, DK, Death knight
Mail
Hunter and Shaman
Leather
Druid, rogue
after all the primary class's have said they dont need it should be rolled for the secondary class's
Warrior, DK, Palli Hunter Shaman
Cloth
Priest, Mage, Lock
after all the primary class's have said they dont need it should be rolled for the secondary class's
Shaman, Druid
Now Im sure someone will disagree but the way I see it is and we will use the OP as a example your main type of gear is leather yes you can wear cloth but Priest, Mages, Locks use cloth as there main set of gear they should by all rights have 1st priority on the gear....That is only fair..
I mean how would you feel if a hunter beat you out on a piece of leather DPS gear or a shaman beat you out on a piece of leather Caster gear that you could have used as a upgrade.. would be a little &*!@ed wouldnt you
Share the smoke :)

the mail gloves I got from 75badge of justice in TBC were on par with t6.
a fiew leather pants were the best pré-raiding drop.
I can go on if I want.

I would have said gz because I understand a lot of leathergear is awsome for hunters, to the shaman I would have said he is an idiot for thinking elemental DPS atm is vialbe :p.

Moonkins should be allowed to roll on cloth, the question is how and with what priority.
The good way to do it would be to have someone who knows all his possible upgrades and how/where they drop, in order to be able to decide by himself wether he should roll on it or not. If it's a best-in-slot item, not allowing him to roll on it is stupid. If there's an equivalent leather item available in farmed content, then the druid rolling on cloth is indeed being greedy (there's an example of that with 2nd best belts where there are cloth and leather options which have the same dps increase).

Leveling my resto druid, i need on cloth, and i think i should be able to. However i dont like having shammies and pallies rolling on cloth BECAUSE they dont need the spirit. (if the cloth gear dont have spirit its a free for all i guess)
live with it

All I can say to this is this:
When I can roll on your plate, mail and leather, you can roll on my cloth.

If it were a DKP guild, then I'd say have at it. They're your points, bid them as you want. If it's rolling, then boomkin should take their upgrades from leather, and the cloth that the clothies don't need.
Not a fan of the rest of the post (or most of this topic for that matter), but this is really a great paragraph.
Don't like not being able to roll on gear? get a proper loot system.
