Well, we can only wait and see.
January 22nd
is the estimated date of the release (in Europe) so we'll see whether or not Darkfall tanks, or it actually gets off the ground.

EvE Online is not in competition with WoW. They are two completely different games with very very different people playing them. Kudos to EvE for being the master of thier niche in the MMO worldspace.

I only watched the video posted by the OP and by no means have I researched this game, but these are my impressions based solely on that clip:
First and foremost, WoW's look may be more cartoon-ish, but it's smoother. Much of that game looked "clunky" as some one above me said. It's just not polished. Granted that can change in later versions of the game. It's still in Alpha, right?
Secondly, unless they find a way to balance it so that at NO point can one character in the best gear walk into your city and hack down every one who they come across, this game will evolve into a gank-fest the likes Stranglethorn has never seen. However, by the same token, if they make it so classes only matter to the point where the only thing that 'really' changes is the amount of health you have and how far you attack from--then people will complain about a lack of character variation. The only way this 'FFA PVP" strategy will work is if it's basically like COD but with swords. Simply saying, you have slightly different ranges and some people can survive a little longer, but really every 'class' plays the same way.
Third and finally, they would have to make cities INCREDIBLY hard to sack. Imagine you spend a significant amount of time cultivating a thriving metropolis and then while you're sleepig that night the clan with all the high-end gear comes and takes over because the NPC guards (which I can't see the game not having) are too weak to stand a chance... This brings to thought another question: Where the Hell will these cities be? They claim there is no instancing. So, does that mean there are certain cities randomly placed around the map that one clan or lord can 'own' at a given time? Because, as the game grows, how would they manage this? Wouldn't the entire game be a series of over-lapping towns a few months in? Or are cities so hard to start that you're going to have to be that clan in amazing gear?
To summarize, they claim they can do a LOT. Too much, actually. Balancing all this and keeping the servers running is too much of a task for a company with Blizzard's budget, much less some company without that level of finance. Odds are this game will fall by the way side. They've just planned to do so much they'll never clear that bar. I'm sorry to say it, but the don't stand a chance. This is just bunch of overly zealous guys imagining what they'd like to see in an MMO.

I can't be the only person thinking this is Runescape but with better graphics, Runescape has PvP worlds, Members can build houses (sortof like guild houses), You can be PvP or PvE on runescape but like all games that have an idea based on another game it has
more
Darkfall for e.g has better graphics and ships/navy . Not many people care though since it's nothing like WoW.

Looks boring. Boring graphics, boring designs, just plain boring.
Oh and no story? Good luck to "Darkfail"

There are only two things that can ever rival WoW. Dragonball Z online and a Pokemon MMO. The DBZ one is actually scheduled for release this year...
In all seriousness, I highly doubt any MMORPG will really rival WoW any time soon.

We shall see ;)
I was thinking to myself that the original poster shot us this video with a heavy dose of sarcasm and one serious eye roll before I started reading some of the comments and am now assuming that this was intended to be taken somewhat seriousely (for consideration).
I'm hurt =O If I shot that video, I would've made it look like WoWx4000 ;)
