Here is the formula for Shiv:
(20 + 10*weapon speed)
Example if you are using the
Merciless Gladiator Shiv
with a 1.4 weapon speed:
(20 + ) = 34 Energy
So weapon type is not a factor. Basic rule of thumb is faster weapon, cheaper Shiv.

Hi I have sort of a noob question. Is there anyway to get rid of the stealth button on the bottom left of the screen short of downloading an addon?

Short of downloading an addon, no.
This
one is fairly lightweight, and I believe still works (i have completely custom bars, so "lightweight" was not what I looked for. You will need to try the addon to see if it still functions.)

PvP:
spec seems best ass/subtlety -- but then which weapons are recommended?
I was using combat (and thus maces for the spec'd stun), but I heard daggers are low dps. Does that mean swords are best to use?
thx

Thanks so much! This has helped me gain some insight on my raiding. Also, is it bad that i put 10 talent points in Stealth if im a Combat? I like the dercreased detection and the increased speed while stealth, otherwise i followed the Combat chart with the rest in the recommended Assassination areas.

Could anyone confirm that by using a sword in your OH only that the Sword Spec talent still procs ?
Reason i ask is that Fist Spec only proc's when the weapon is in your MH, if you have 5/5 Fist Spec without a fist weapon in your MH there is no increase in crit chance on the character info pane.

Its been proven over on EJ. With a highly detailed parse and explanation as well.
With Fist spec, if you don't have a fist in your MH but you have one in your OH than only the OH benefits from the increased Crit. For some reason Blizzard chose not to have Crit represented by a number for each weapon like they do for attack speed and for expertise.
If you were a human, and you had a mace in off hand sword in main hand, you would see your expertise numbers as 0/5. 5 expertise when hitting with the off-hand weapon and none when hitting with the main hand weapon.
The same applies for crit, if Blizzard made crit two numbers than a rogue with fist spec and a sword in MH and a Fist in OH would have a crit something like: 20/25. The MH would have 20% crit, and the OH would have 25% crit, the extra 5 from Fist spec.
I hpoe this helps.

I'm the same way, MoD and Camo + rest of Combat Swords spec. But, those subt talents are worthless for raiding. It does make questing and world pvp easier, less detection from mobs and players; stealthing thru heavy mob areas or avoiding a group of enemy players. With 5/5 MoD, you have a stealth lvl of a player 3 lvls higher than you. If you are a night elf with Shadowmeld, it adds an extra stealth lvl. Basically this means at lvl 60 you have stealth of someone at lvl 63 (or 64), making you slightly harder to spot. In raids, however, you wont be stealthed at all unless you're preparing an opener or are using vanish in response to a wipe (yes, we rogues do love to save ourselves while the rest of you stand there and die).
Currently I am a hybrid spec at 62, not too shabby on dps and damage in instances (usually #2 or 3, only out dpsed by locks and huntards).

At 70 I will be raiding as Combat Mutilate -

Tho my current build doesnt offer as much damage output as your standard combat build, it does add more functionality and variations to play style, which i think is a lot more important as a player than to be spamming a SS all day as a combat rogue. Also, for the record, 5 point Evi crits are god. Me <3 CB.
Heres me if anyone wants to check me out -

If anyone has any ideas as to how i can improve some of my gear, moy gracias.
(yeah, i know i responded to a post from about a month ago, but what if someone else is browsing here with the same question? O_o)

I have just repecced to the Combat Mutilate build (my main toon is a 62 NE rogue) from Combat Swords after being bored to death from constant SS spamming. The versatility of this build is amazing, and the variations in play style and combinations are very intriguing. Now, i completely get raiding/instancing as Combat Swords- SS spam for 5 CPs, then slap on a Rupture or SnD, then SS spam some more to slap on what you didnt the first time. A bit more too it than that, I know... but its pretty basic of a build. I've been reading this thread and noticed that most ppl are combat swords, and so their advice doesnt really apply to me at all. I know the basics of how the Combat Mutilate build works, but I'm still not sure as to what I'm actually supposed to be DOING in the raid/instance environment. If anyone is paying attention to this thread anymore, and cares to say more than "n00btard swordz ftw me hearty hearts me slappy slashers", then I'll welcome any advice you have to offer. Mind you I've had my fill of the combat spec and miss my daggers dealy (lvl 10 - 45 was dagger/subt, very fun till it started taking forever to down mobs) and will not be respeccing to Combat Swords for any reason. Me as Combat Mutilate is here to stay, so I dont want to hear anything about swords.
This is me currently -

I know my daggers are complete crap, but i only JUST respecced, then AHed, went to Eastern Plaguelands to Tyr's Hand to pickpocket and play with footlockers, then did UB to try and get The Stalker's Fang, but to no avail. My damage output for the whole instance about near 260k, which is complete crap compared to what i could have done as combat swords... which is why i need some good advice on how to use this spec. I want to be good at it for as much as i already enjoy it.
Edit: I manged to get Blade of Unquenched Thirst as a drop, would this be a good OH or should i look for one with stats and more added to it? wtf is with all these caster daggers for 60+.... making me very angry....

It's fine if you have nothing else, but try to get a hold of

Don't know your play style and whether 150 badges from heroics would take you a lot of time or just a few weeks (neither do I know who soon will WotlK be coming out), but I'm using these daggers:
Blade of Serration
...and I believe they are the best a non raider without a personal rating of 2050 can get :P
I would say that those are fairly difficult to obtain. Badges of Justice are hard to obtain at level 62.

Please enlighten a rookie rogue why you want a slower sword in the main hand and a faster in the off hand? (I guess swords is the way to go even though you can backstab as I understand it?)
When comparing weapons of the same dps, a slower one will have a bigger damage range (to compensate for it's slower attack speed). A bigger damage range yields bigger special attacks. To clarify: you are not necessarily looking for a slower weapon, but a bigger damage range.
Fast offhands deliver more poison procs, more sword spec procs and more combat potency procs.
