k.
eradication returns less per point spent so when is a very good choice, 2 less so and the third point a fairly bad idea.
don't try too hard to get a high crit rating. crit gives less per point than many other stats, even with ISB.

Hi lenghtcobra, your spec is solid but right now SnF/DM builds are performing better for destro.
Your rotation is off a little, you want CoA and Corr up 1st to give them a chance to proc MC for immo and CB:
CoA -> Corr -> Immo -> CB -> Incen, repeat incen and refresh DOTs as needed.
Confl should be an excellent spell after the next path with the new glyph of conf.
CB is ok. Of the new 51 point talents Haunt is the only 1 that blizz got right. They are buffing CB some in next patch but current testing is showing that it is still not quite enough to make speccing for it for PvE worth it. The problem is that a fair chunk of it's budget is going to the anti-resist/absorption effect which is more of a PvP effect.
DS is not worth it. If you spec that far in go ahead you will lose CB. Better to go with a SnF/DM build at that point. If he dies Fel Dom resummon with practice he should not die as much, some of this will depend on group make up(how much AoE healing is occuring). Ex. if you have a holy paladin glyphed for holy light park you imp close enough to the tank to get spill ove rheals but position to avoid special attacks(i.e. behind boss)
The "wow locks" stuff is due to the beating we are taking in PvP now. Still a strong PvE DPS class.

affliction locks have never needed a dot timer addon more than right now. this has become such a necessity that blizzard have recognised that locks can't perform well without the addon and are looking at ways to help.
from what i gather they're trying to fix this problems from both angles. firstly, making the default UI more clear and secondly by making more of the DoTs the same length so they drop off together and don't require so much attention (the same way that UA and immo work currently). they've also talked about giving affliction less spells to cast and this one i'm a little sceptical about. the current rotation is complex but i don't think i want less spells to cast necessarily.

You and other locks have stated clearly that aff is top right now over des and demon. Why is that? With the felguard putting out over 1k dps alone and des making some massive numbers
and buffs like mc
, what does aff have that they don't?
Even casting CoA and Corruption (two shadow affliction spells) with 3/3 MC a Destro or Hybrid 'lock will only see about 80% uptime, so that 10% bonus is really only 8% that only applies to fire spells (did I mention that you have to cast 2 shadow spells in your rotation? :P).
Contrast that with 3 points spent in Shadow Mastery in the Affliction tree, that's a 9% flat bonus to all shadow spells with no requirements to proc it.

aff has DPCT (damage per cat time) in huge quantities and it all adds up.
nukes like SB and incinerate are relatively low on the DPCT scale (at the bottom in fact) and, in wrath, affliction really does use SB only as a 'filler' with a majority of it's damage coming from DoTs with their high DPCT. if good uptime can be maintained the various DoTs are incredibly efficient ways to do damage and make the very most of your SP from gear.

ya sorry lol im so used to giant numbers i assume they are crit. Something i was curious on is why the points in des? No according to blight and improved shadowbolt unless your going with felguard specc to spam shadowbolt he says you should skip it. I thought you know improves shadow bolt is based on crit obviously and ruin is more crit damage, but with dot's your not going to focus on crit at all.
I wanted to ask why not put the points into demon? I figure ok 5 points into des for the reduced time on sb and immolate. But in demon you get more stam, then 3 pts into more hp and mp, the 2 can go either into the health stones or myself i would put 2 into voidwalker for the soloing.
I would put 3 last into improved fel armor. I figure the 30% extra spell damage has to be worth it. So im gona stay with the aff/ des for now, but before i think about speccing aff/demon using the above method, is that sound or what would be the flaws?
thanks again asak for replying
You are asking about subbing this
demo subsection
for the
destro subsection
of Haunt/Ruin?
Basically, the Demonic Aegis is the only DPS boost in the demo subsection. The extra health for you and your pet is nice but not very important for PvE. Demonic Aegis boosts the bonus spell power from Fel Armor 30% not you overall spell power(I wish).
The destro subsection will boost your Immolate by a bit less than 10%(MC won't always be up), Immolate+SB both get boosted by Ruin. Overall the 15pts in destro will give more DPS than the 15pts in demo.
You don't focus on crit for affliction, basic stat priorities for affliction lock:
HIT(till capped) > SP > HASTE > CRIT > SPIRIT
irlharry has a complete sticky on stats that is worth reading.

ruin > demonic aegis. everything you said is correct but go and test it. it's quite noticeable.
a big thing that makes ruin good is the talents that naturally come with it. bane is hugely important and to take bane and demonic aegis means missing out on some important talents in affliction. also getting ruin means you're able to pick up cataclysm which, unless you're swimming in +hit, allows you to gear for dps.
ISB is underpowered. after bane and cataclysm the 2 points spent to get to ruin are filler. i use MC.
questing with affliction is very easy. stop worrying about needing a tank and tank it all yourself.
use instant DoTs on everything you can reach. cast haunt every time it's up. if you're ever overwhelmed then HoT and drain. with intelligent use of life tap and drain life you'll never end a fight with low health or mana.
