I dunno, I never found WoW to be all that cartoony. No moreso than Unreal Tournament or something >_>
Ragnarok Online, now that's cartoony.
Do you smart alecks really want me to edit the topic title to read "What" instead of "wtf"? "wtf" is internet jargon, it's not WoW specific.

"QQ" to describe crying is about one of the most retarded text constructs ever.

The one I cannot fathom is 'kk' for 'ok' - why?
I die a little inside whenever I read that. It's so stupid.

kk is the short form for "ok ok", a more definitive (and more impatient) form of "ok", and it makes sense.
the one term that was even quoted but not flamed by the OP is the term "dps": dps stands for damage per second, it is a measurement referring to a combat stat (damage). And now it is generalised to describe a whole group of players, I don't see how it makes sense. If it did, then healers should be called "hps" (healing per second) and tanks should be called "tps" (threat per second), and something like: "LF9M Naxx, need dps, hps, tps!", retarded? I know....

cry more
Also, posting stuff like this in any given thread is right out lame. If you aren't able to construct a sentence even remotely yielding a contrary opinion, you're just not entitled to post.
"Tell" (since noone has commented on that) was brought over from other, previous MMO's where tell was the used term for whisper. A lot of people starting out WoW when it came out was players coming from other games and it was natural for them to use this term allready. Old habits and all. It just stuck I guess.
I'm guilty of using both "kk", "lol" and probably a few more rather silly acronyms, "dps" too. Even though I am generally of the more "type out each word to its fullest" kind of guy some things just slip through.
I must admit that every once in a while I really have to read a sentence both two and three times to get what they're really saying though. Like "lf2m mt tank+heal g2g" or much worse variations, but I can't even type those out...

oh god, kk and dps, I knew I hard forgotten some.
QQ seems extraordinarily common in WoW compared to other parts of the net, but from what I understand it's *supposedly* a smiley of two tear-filled eyes.
Oh, and I updated my OP on Tells, thanks for telling me where that one came from. Hopefully people can explain the others, I'm rather curious >_>

I rarely see 'kk' used in a context that warrants an exasperated form of 'OK'. It's typically used simply as a replacement.
Example:
Person a: I'm going to repair, i'll meet you at the entrance.
Person b: kk
No irritation or annoyance construed here.
On another note, I have noticed a gross overuse of 'lol'. I find it perfectly acceptable in specific situations that may cause one to literally laugh out loud, but not in the 'end every sentence with it' sort of way I see overwhelmingly present in my chat window. It has almost become a replacement for the period.
Example:
Person 1: I just got a blue drop from this mob in Dragonblight lol
Person 2: kool lol
Person 3: I've killed hundreds and only rarely found green items lol
Person 4: lol
None of the above is actually funny, and certainly not worth laughing about.
I understand that languages will grow and evolve in specialized/isolated communities, however I would prefer is still remain somewhat intelligent. I find that the internet (and do I love me some intertubes) has become extremely liberal with it's use of acronyms and to an even higher degree, it's leniency on their definitions and use.

Also, pst is not an acronym (it's onomatopoeia if anything); I do like it. Better than saying "whisper me".
pst = please send tell. That of course would be an acronym.
Really? I always thought "pst" was supposed to be the sound effect that /w makes, a kind of "Psst! Over here buddy!" kind of thing. I guess I learned something today.
