Why do people expect to roll for shards?

First off leave your "L2" and "QQ" somewhere else, I want this to be a serious discussion for enchanters and non-enchanters.
I am an enchanter and my question is, Why does everyone expect you to disenchant blues/purple in dungeons that is not an upgrade for anybody and everyone in party roll for the shard?
So, if you don't have a one-sided mind and really think about this it makes sense. Us enchanters need these shards to level up our enchanting. Also now in Wrath, we need shards to purchase new recipes from the vendor in Dalaran.
There is no gathering profession that goes with enchanting like mining/blacksmithing etc. Disenchanting stuff is our only way to get mats to level up unless you expect us to buy them all. So if I'm expected to give you a shard because you feel the need to roll for it, then why don't we roll for that ore you just mined or that leather you just skinned? See what i'm getting at here?
Now to clarify things, when my enchanting is maxed and i have bought all my new recipes with the shards, then I'll be glad to let party roll for them but until then it's not going to happen. When a blue or whatever drops in a dungeon you should "Need" if its an upgrade for you and all esle party "greeds". If i happen to win then i'm DE'ing for myself and if you win then you do whatever you want with it.
With that said, I would really like to see some opinions from enchanters and non enchanters.

I think before Wrath it was simple common courtesy, since everyone had a hand in acquiring that blue/purple. Now that is is currency, I think the common courtesy should go right back to us enchanters until we start hitting 450.
I sense a little QQness, but your point is highly valid. If a bunch of us consistently run into this problem, we should unionize. :D

A few things.
Forgive me if these have been mentioned above i havent read all the other posts
People shouldnt expect you to let them roll if your not maxed out
If you win on a greed thats an automatic your DE is keeps for you
If the enchanter needs and its something that literally cann't use (like a warlock need on a gun or a druid needing on plate) as an enchanter its their duty to DE it for the group because they needed on it rather thang reeding
Thats what i've always thought was the 'common sense rules' of DE'ing instance loots

I agree, the system should be: roll 'need' if the item is an upgrade, everyone else roll 'greed'. If you are enchanter and you win it, you get to keep the shard.
Once enchanters have maxed out their skill we can go back to the old way of all rolling at the end.
On guild/friend runs (i.e. not pugs) we use need/greed/pass system i.e. need if you need, pass if you don't, greed if you are an enchanter, so enchanters get the shards to skill-up.
You make a very valid point about ore/leather/herbs etc. Yes, shards are worth more in pure gold terms, but they are still the raw materials of your profession and without them you can't level and therefore provide me with shiny high-level enchants later on ;)
PS I am not an enchanter

sigh u enchanters dont get it if ur bitchin about having to let pple roll on the shard go as a guild run or get 5 friends that are willing to give u the shard to go with you because heck we could of all rolled greed for the item and vendored it instead of letting u disenchant it.

also thing is not every one puts the shards in ah they some times keep them to be able to be enchanted by you. cause come on its not like ur not gonna put the shard in ah and then expect them to buy it to get u the mats to do the chant for them and then u make more of a profit than we would if we put it in the ah ourselves.

that meens the chanter ninjaed that gun or plate cause the tank is normally a plate wearer so that meens that chanter is a noob and should give the shard to the tank.

I am not disagreeing with what has been said here...
I simply want to point out that Enchanting is the only Profession that has mats Basically HANDED to them as they lvl.... their Gathering profession for chanting is BUILT IN.... Slap Skinning IN with LW and then you can compare the two...
Disagree?
All these quest rewards im vendoring say otherwise... you can EASILY get tons of chanting mats DEing quest rewards or old gear...
if there were an option to where I could get skin/leatherworking mats as a quest reward instead of vendorables then i would GLADLY take them.... but Sadly i cant.
If i run in a group and there is no enchanter and its something no one can use, usually we roll for vendor with the rule that you win one you don't roll again.
if there were an enchanter it would prob go same way but with the chanter getting the first shard. That way he is guaranteed a shard but doesn't get every one... and maybe everyone chips in at the end to tip the chanter for said DE's...
A chanter not wanting to DE for someone simply because they dont profit annoys me...
That would be like me saying i'm not going to make you that Leather item that you have mats for because i don't get anything...

Obviously you don't get it or you just plain out can't read. As stated in the original post, any gear upgrade should be rolled as "need" and ALL other party members roll "greed" and do as wish with it if you win.
