What's the level 80 hit rating cap?
Return to board index

I'm sorry, but I must be blind, because I can't find it.
How much hit rating do we need to be capped at level 80?
I've been looking, and I can't find how much hit rating = 1% hit or anything.
Thanks.

Hmm, maybe I did figure it out.
Based on what I've seen, we'll want 446 spell hit rating to raid.
... and 105 spell hit rating for PvP.
This is assuming 26.23199272 = 1% hit at level 80.
Can anyone confirm?

Over at the Elitest Jerks forums, they confirmed that 26.23199272 = 1% hit, however, Wowhead calculates it differently.
Wowhead show something like 37.2~~ = 1% hit.
Now I'm confused again. =(

wowhead has it listed as 37.5 hit rating per 1% hit rating
however...... this is copy pasted from graymatter,
Hit Rating:
If you raided in the Burning Cruisade then you know the importance of Hit rating, in WotLK Hit is still very important. However, there are a couple of changes you should know. First, you will now need 26.23 Hit Rating to improve your chance to hit by 1%. More importantly we will now be able to increase our hit chance to 100%. So we will now need to increase our hit chance by 17%. Balance of Power and Misery (shadow priest talent) will increase our hit chance by 7%. The other 10% will need to be made up by hit rating. Therefore, the soft hit cap in WotLK is 263.
To be honest i still don't know which number is correct

The confusion here is because while hit rating now affects both spell and physical hit chance it does not do so equally.
At level 70 you need 13 hit rating for a +1% spell hit chance and 16 hit rating for a +1% physical hit chance. If you look at an item on wowhead such as
Cowl of the Illidari High Lord
you can see that wowhead is displaying the physical hit chance for all items. That 21 hit rating gives 1.66% spell hit chance and 1.33% physical hit chance at level 70.
At level 80 you need 27 hit rating for a +1% spell hit chance and 33 hit rating for a +1% physical hit chance.
To be precise the numbers Whitetooth posted over on
Elitist Jerks
(32.78998947 hit rating for +1% physical and 26.23199272 hit rating for +1% spell hit) will give exactly +1.0% hit chance. Since fractional hit chance is not possible in game 27 and 33 hit rating are the smallest possible numbers that get you at least a +1% chance (they actually give 1.03% and 1.01%).
I've built a little tool to handle these calculations which you might find useful:

Just to clear a few things up, and make it as simple as possible. I know that most everybody knows how to check these things, but for that 10% of people who just can't seem to get it, I'm going to explain.
When looking at your character sheet, if you hold your mouse cursor over your hit rating it will give you a percentage. This percentage WILL NOT display any hit inherently given to you by your talents. If you have talents in Suppression and/or Cataclysm, that will give you 3%, so you will need and additional 14% from gear, gems, and enchants. That being said, if you only want to be hit capped for one particular spec, Affliction, for example, you will need 446 hit rating to be a just over 17%. Or you have the option of dropping 3 points in Suppression, and then you would need 368 hit rating, which gives you a total of 14.03%, which, with talents, will put you just over the hit cap.
I personally play a Destruction warlock, so naturally I favor Hit Rating first, then Crit and Haste equally to an extent, so long as I do not gimp myself on spellpower. As an Affliction warlock, IN MY OPINION (so don't hammer my post to hell because we are all entitled to our own opinions) I would favor Hit, then Spellpower, and then Crit and haste.
Even though I play destruction, I still have points in Suppression and Cataclysm, so that I can socket and enchant for as little Hit as possible, and concentrate those areas more for haste and crit.

just to clear a few things up... necro-posting on a thread from several month ago is not cool.
