Depends on how you define addiction.
If addiction = playing it as much as I can, for as long as I can - sometimes ignoring other things, then yes I'm addicted.
However, I choose to play because it's fun. If it's not fun, I wouldn't play it. I, sometimes, played it when I wasn't enjoying it. I wouldn't call it an addiction, just a routine.
For many, I am assuming, it's the same - log on WoW and go do some PvP/PvE at the same time everyday. Do that for long enough and it will become second nature, you'll start to do it without thinking. I wouldn't call that an addiction, just a routine thats hard to break out of (especially if you aren't working/in school).
You could even say I'm addicted to WoWhead, I'm always checking the forums.

Yeah, I suppose. I'd call it WoW addiction when the will to play actively interferes with other parts of one's life. As long as it's controlled it's not addiction :)

The point here though is the fact that its fun: Enjoyment creates the chemical responses associated with it. If it wasnt fun that chemical wouldnt exist in your brain. Same with everything, sex, drugs, rock and roll... the "enjoyment" creates the chemical response.

I was addicted to WoW or I certainly played it a lot and almost every day but then I dinged 70 got my flyer then pvp wasn't very fun after to new patch, and then wow got boring, luckily my subscription expired so I can take a break until the expansion comes out, but unfortunetley now I'm a wowhead addict.

I love that this comes up once a month, heh.
WoW is habit-forming, not addictive.
An addiction is a "chronic relapsing condition characterized by compulsive substance-seeking and abuse and by
long-lasting chemical changes
in the brain".
For a majority of players, WoW is a hobby that may be habit-forming - but it would cause them no true withdrawal were they to quit playing. There are no changes to brain chemistry caused by exposure to Azeroth; for most people I'd confidently bet that they wouldn't lock themselves in a room and suffer through "the shakes" and vomitting trying to go cold turkey from their Mage.
There are exceptions to the rule, of course - but those exceptions, I would speculate, are those people who have a classic "addict" personality, in which case the fault is not with the game but with themselves.
This is correct.
The only definition of addiction that matters here is the medical one.
Use of any other meaning is contextually and logically null.
( an example would be a debate I got into the other day regarding abortion where the other party was using a non-legal definition of murder, so I threatened to report her to the police for the murder of contextual analysis.
Long story short, context is key.)
And reaper, the key words in Xara's posrt regarding brain biochemistry are highlighted in my quote.

I would not consider WoW addictive, but yes it is getting to be a habbit especial when im on the cusp of getting to lvl 70.
I usually play 2-3 hours a night but to be honest since fable 2's release in spending a lot of time on that, tonite ive been invited to kara guild run so that should be fun. Weekends are my real WoW days those are the days i make real progress in the game like leveling, questing and Guild boosts. The weekdays for me are mostly instances, i try to do one instance a day and being a tank, it aint to hard to find a group.

youve stated, and he stated, nothing that hasnt been countered.
Bottom line here is that even though you personally dont exibit these changes many many people do. Its no different than, as its been stated many many times, pornography, sex, drugs, alchohol.
The only difference is how they effect each individual.
You cannot make a blanket statement saying that wow is not addictive. When the truth is that, for some, it is.

*sigh*
Endorphin release (and similar) is not the addictive part,
Addiction is only possible to chemicals, anything else merely resembles addiction.
You may become addicted to the chemicals released when you play WoW or anything else, but it is the chemicals, not the reason for their release.
What you claim is that taking heroin makes you addicted to needles. :P
