Those that brag about getting gold in excess of 15000 in WotLK beta did so only because many players there were simply out of their minds... Any kind of mats, being VERY scarce, were sold on AH for crazy amounts of gold. Those that had tens of thousands of gold (most likely bought from gold sellers) actually would spend like upwards of 100g for a stack of Borean Leather for instance. Stacks of Frostweave Cloth sold for the same amount or more. Enchanting mats were like 200g+ for a stack of god damn dust. That is why some claim to have made such high amount of money in a very short time. Because they were farming all kinds of mats and postilg them on AH for ridiculous prices. And the players who had 30K+ gold simply paid because it had no importance how much it would cost to level up their professions. Because it was all BETA.
On the live servers on the other hand, prices will grow up on AH for a while but won't go nowhere near the stupid values some crazy players were asking for in the BETA. And anyway, AH will be a good way to make fast money in the first 2-3 months of WotLK, until the new mats build up into a large enough supply. But the old mats will still be around in plenty. On the BETA server I was looking for some Greater Planar Essences to enchant a staff of mine with 35 agility. I bought 4 for 160g... Can you imagine that? And I was LUCKY. there is no way in the world prices are gonna go that high on the live servers, as there is enough supply of 'old-type' mats for any profession.

Stay away from the AH. (except when you are putting stuff up to sell)If everyone stays away from the AH except to sell, who is going to buy?
Not you anyway...

After doing some calculations because everyone really does pretty much exaggerate on what you actually get. You get around 385.77 g from quest alone in Borean Tundra on Alliance side doing everyone quest. You get about 39 pieces of gear from Borean Tundra quest alone ranging in prices let's make them about 7g a piece so that comes up to 273g. You get mobs loot and rare gear too but that according to your luck. That and people have different professions so again money wise be different there too. So starting off level Borean Tundra you make 658.77g off quest and vendoring quest items alone. It would safe to say you make 1k gross off entry level zones in Northrend and higher level yield more income Icecrown you will yields for all quest=1,798.46g and you get about 51 pieces gear and let take an estimate of 13g a piece=663 total= 2,461.46 g for just questing and vendoring. Again we probably could round this up some with drops and stuff to 3,000g from this area. So 4,000g from lowest plus highest and breaking off in let say 5 different sector of area questing to obtain level 70-80 given start is 1k and last is 3k. Then the sequence we will use be 1k. 1.5k, 2k, 2.5k, and 3k according to levels and money distribution ratio. Total gross would be around 10k like most people suggested then according to this math. Then again this is gross and not taking in the cost for repairs, foods, drinks, and any other items you might need. I know for me I didn’t make anywhere near this much, because I skipped a lot of quest and used most materials I got. I also pretty much skipped Icecrown all together for last levels too and grinds dailies everyday. Since I was doing at least 15-20 dailies a day to gain rep with certain fractions. So unless your by the book and do every quest and such. You are more likely seeing around 5k of gold if you’re a normal player. That is enough for to train for your riding skill for epic flying mount. Which btw is well worth the gold J GL everyone

On two characters I made about 1500g each after buying spell upgrades and a few blue bind on equip items.
That was with just skinning though and no profession upgrades. Also I did about 50/50 with dungeons and quests. It's enough to buy cold weather flying and some items to get started in raiding.
The problem now (and fixed next patch) is people want fully epic'd people to do heroics with so you end up having to buy your alt gear to get started with raiding.

- Bolt of Imbued Frostweave cloth (20 stack) = 500-1000g
- Ebonweave cloth = 100g
- Spellweave cloth = 200g
- Primal Moon cloth = 300g
Enchanting:
----------------
- Dreamshard (Stack of 20) = 500g
- Dailies = 200-400g (depends on your pace)
