Well check your tier gear and you know how wrong this statement is:
spell damage is still key and so is taking damage
we need both since our attack scale with both.
Does not follow. That we can generate threat with either does not mean that we require both. It means that either one can be used.
However, due to the itemization of tanking gear and the basic mathematics of our coefficients, AP comes out well ahead. It costs half in Blizzard's itemization ratings and generates more threat in the default tanking circumstances. Strength is even better because it costs approximately the same amount as SP but scales with Divine Strength + BoK and further provides BV.
Strength and AP are the more efficient choice, and therefore preferred in a vacuum. The only reason to consider a caster weapon is because it comes loaded with SP at the expense of every other stat, while AP weapons spend on dps (less effective for tankadins) and tanking weapons on tanking stats. Ultimately, it will be a situational tool in LK. Every tankadin will have one (for healing while soloing if nothing else), but it will see limited use.

spell damage is still key
At the moment, I am keeping my caster blade simply because there's no better alternative. It has 247 spell damage (and 43 on top of that from an enchant). There isn't a non-caster blade out there that can compete with that for threat.
False.
threat spreadsheet at level 70
The best caster weapon currently in the game is on par with a King's Defender and inferior to my Unbreakable Will when it comes to threat. This does not mean you need to panic and run out and get a new weapon, but you certainly shouldn't turn your nose up at a tanking weapon if it drops between now and release.
I don't think you need spell damage on armor anymore unless the alternative is so low on strength and similar stats.
Correct.
Don't forget that the change from spell damage to strength is very recent. Some gear has been changed over to strength but there's lots of spell damage plate gear that hasn't (yet) been. It's a very confusing time, but I'm sure once WLK hits it'll become clear and all pallys will be wearing warrior gear and using a warrior blade.
Well, everything that is beyond the Outlands dungeon set has been converted, so I suppose there will be a scattering of people who grab the Spaulers of the Righteous between now and then. Otherwise, not really. In LK, there simply isn't any SP + tanking stats armor to be had.

I'm just stating untill new the contents is out holding your SP gear is going to be fine. Unless they revamp it. Which i think they will judging form tier 7 from naxx 2 from the 10man and 25man
Fair enough, and reasonably accurate. Everything beyond the D3 set has been reitemized, so unless you're in leveling greens or the occasional blue, you'll have strength rather than spellpower.

prot paladines are awsome now. spell damage is still key and so is taking damage but there are some people out there that are looking at the new talents and think like a warrior tank when making a paly tank big mistake we do everything off of holy damage so spell power and health are key. since the patch i have ran and tank kara and grulls
first lets talk about my grulls experience
a druid tank and a warror tank both way better gear then myself and better stats druid was main tank then the warrior and then myself ipulled off the druid and the warrior and they never pulled it off of me even after i stood there for 3 minutes not doing anything lol
this brings me to my kar run got down to prince with only 8 members left in raid so we tried him anyway and i pulled off 180k threat more then anyone else according to omen .
so the only thing i have left to say is
PALYS RULE AND WARRIORS DROOL!
Troll. 0/10I wish I could rate this up.

as far as your gear goes, loose the spell damage get warrior gear. I have on the warrior gear from kara I am almost 490 defense again and almost uncrushable and uncritable like I was pre patch....
Speaking of which, am I right in assuming that def rating got nerfed? I still have the same 298 def rating that I had pre-patch, but that only brings me up to 475 defense instead of 490+ that I had before...
Someone plz confirm or deny.
Denied.
The Anticipation talent was changed from 20 Defense to 5% Dodge. This is why you are below 490.

Threat spreadsheet
Blazefury will be superior for single target threat and for up to three. If you need to hold the entire wave of ghouls on your own while the warlocks and mage wind up immediately, the Hammer of Judgement will have a slight edge on those you aren't directly targeting.
My experience in Hyjal post-patch is that you'll have no problem holding threat with either. I've faced down trash waves with the Hammer of Judgement, Mallet of the Tides, Unbreakable Will, and Merciless Gladiator's Slicer and no non-tank has even come close to ripping them off of me.
