ret pally are way overpowered over classes like mage/warlock/hunter/rogues who are of course main dps classes cuz that's all they can do and have the right to complain.......now thats a WTF?
This is the old argument of "A Paladin can heal himself and can wear plate and brings buff to a raid - thus he can't be able to do as much damage as a Mage or a Rogue or a Hunter."
And it's
still
a bogus argument.
Prior to 3.0.2, Ret Paladins' DPS was nerfed to the point where you had to outgear one of the DPS classes by at least 2 "stages" in order to compete.
That
would
be balanced
if
a Ret's heals were worth a damn (which they weren't) or if plate was as uber as it is made out to be (it's not - doesn't do anything against magic) or if they brought buffs to a raid that couldn't be challenged by any other class (which wasn't true in most cases).
Back on topic: You're incorrect, OP, in that it only took a day for these changes to come through. The chances are good that the developers have been working on these changes internally since the final patch (the one that became 3.0.2) went onto PTR.
You're also incorrect that these nerfs aren't justified - they are. Right now Ret is horribly overpowered.
I watched an Arms Warrior friend with 300 Resilience and a nice set of PvP get absolutely torn up by a Ret Pally in PvE gear (with his S4 gloves being the only PvP item). That ain't right. So the balancing is going to continue. I think, however, from Blizzard's design changes that this is
all
we'll see - balancing, so that our DPS is not wrecking everything else.
Don't get me wrong, we'll still hear the QQs from the old "top dogs" because now they actually have to work to kill a "Priest in plate" - but it will remain a fair fight nonetheless.

Well to tell you pallies a truth ( I had a ret pally turned into holy just to raid, but decided to abandon him), only reason why ret is getting nerf because it is true that you guys are way OP. It would be nice if this is at lvl 80 but you are OP at lvl 70. Get used to the fact that you are a hybrid class like a druid and can nvr be excellent at one spec. Prot pally can aoe tank like a mad truck and now they got buff to tank just like a warrior.....wtf? holy paladins are great MT healers and nvr ran out of mana.....WTF? ret pally are way overpowered over classes like mage/warlock/hunter/rogues who are of course main dps classes cuz that's all they can do and have the right to complain.......now thats a WTF? so don't be surprise if u get nerf cuz you will. please stop this complaining about getting nerfed cuz again you have to realize you are a hybrid class. I have a dream! A dream that one day I can be equally viable in any dps, tank or healer class I choose, regardless of spec!
Really, Why should I have to be a !@#$in rogue or hunter to do melee dps. Why do I have to be certain classes just to be accepted into raids. No reason. Sorry rajin, but you are wrong. If Blizz wanted one class to dominate each archtype, they would've only made 3 classes. one tank, one healer, one dps. The point of a game like this is that everyone can realize their own path -- THEIR OWN WAY!
The retribution spec is a dps spec. Deal with it. DPS. As such, it should be just as viable in terms of damage as any other dps class. (given the same level gear and skill) I do understand some of what you are trying to say, though. Ret does have the ability to play a support role, but THAT IS NOT OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE. If you look at the ret tree talents, it becomes painfully clear that the spec was designed to do damage. Until now, we didn't do all the damage that other dps classes could've. Things have changed though. We can now dps just like an equally geared hunter, lock, or rogue. Although all classes have different secondary roles in a raid (CC, food, off-tanking), all dps classes are designed to be damage dealers FIRST. There is no such thing as a 'main dps class', there are only DPS classes.
So, with all due respect, dont say silly things. Every class got a buff. Every class can fulfill their primary role 'well'. This is called balance, people, balance.
Get used to it, or press ALT-F4.

So hmm let me see what you are trying to say Daboss. So hmm so this is what you call balance then. Well scale this balance then....
You can dps as much if not more than a hunter/rogue but at the same time u can back up heal and Offtank if need be in which rogues and hunters can't do (only rogues can evasion tank but this rarely happens) you call that balance? NO!
You can be a mana/health battery like a shadow priest but you can outdps a shadow priest. you call that balance? NO!
You have cc like a mage now and of course out dps them. You call that balance? NO!
You also have a DI like a warlocks soulstone and saves you and the other person repairs......
I'm pretty sure you see where I'm going with this. Because what I just had posted above are all the things ret pallies can do so why would I need another dps class? HMM wait I DON'T cuz ret pallies has everything we need..is that balance? NO! my point exaclty.
So daboss play or learn other classes before you say ret pallies are balance.....
Other ret pallies already aggree you guys are OP yourselves. So please stop this balance crap you are saying

We can dps 'just like' rogues and hunters can. we got a bigger buff because we were further behind before.
1) We cant Off-tank. don't even try that one. We're useless for taking damage in a end-game PvE environment. We can heal, but trust me, we wont be doing much of that in an end-game scenario. We'll be those guys hitting stuff, not healing. So whats the point of having that stuff in a PvE setting? none.
2) Spriests have better CC. Your point?
3) I was beat by a fire mage the other day in the DPS meters, so, allow me to correct you: We can outdps !@#$ty mages.
What I'm trying to say is that in a PvE context, Blizz realized that it wasnt enough just to give pallies 'utility' to be successful in raids, they need to be able to output damage to get into groups. That has been fixed. It used to be torture to get into guilds:
Me: "Hey I'm a ret pally. 3/5 T5 gear. 2100ap, 29crit, hit capped, have imp might. may i join?"
Ignorant Guild Leader: "NO WAY! RETLOL!"
...And when I finally did get in, I was schooled by T5 hunters and rogues in dps.
But now, I can actually beat all those people I outgeared, just like I should.
You are right pallies can do lots, but so can everyone else. Every class/spec has its own little perks, but in the end, we should all be able to perform our primary abilities well. We couldn't before. Now, we can.
That being said. In PvP, there needs to be an adjustment, You are right on our OPness there. Mostly because now all those little perks that were meaningless in PvE are now useful again.
So, in that case, It would be smarter to adjust our utility rather than nerf our damage. decrease the duration of our bubble, lessen our heal abilities, make our seals more easily dispellable. All those are good suggestions. But do cut our damage now would #$%^ on all the good work they did for the class over the years they've been working on the patch.

Ok I think it was totally fair to nerf us because I have to admit we were insanely OP. But the thing wrong here is that they nerfed is in the wrong ways. First of all, of couse
Divine Storm -- the damage was changed from Holy to Physical. As you know, Holy damage is almost never mitigated and this talent could pack a lot into a very short time. This is a nerf to the ability's damage. This change is now active on Live.
this is totally wrong, our class is very spell damage dependant and most of your end game gear has a lot of intellect, meaning we are most spell damage. Divine Storm is our last of our abilities in the retribution build, you need 50 talent points ot use it. This means that it is one of our main abilites, they should not chnage things around like that, instead they should extend the cooldown and nerf the damage it does A LITTLE BIT.
Second..
Righteous Vengeance -- now applies a dot affect similar to Deep Wounds (instead of critical strike damage). This ends up being a significant buff to the ability to make up for the damage lost to Divine Storm, but is also less bursty. This change will be made before Nov 13. EDIT: The dot will NOT break Repentance.
Epic Fail.
Once this nerf goes through, Righteous Vengeance will be our ONLY DoT, Paladins are not a DoT Class, we are not about that. Instead of taking away the whole thign and replacing it with some stupid DoT They should just nerf it over all. As of now Righteous Vengheance granted 25% critical strike bonus maxed out in retri build. This is very overpowered and not fair. So INSTEAD, they should just reduce it and grant 15% or 10%, not take it away and replace with a DoT
Again,
Art of War -- now affects all damage done by Judgements, Crusader Strike and Divine Storm (instead of critical strike damage). Net dps should be about the same but less bursty. This change will be made before Nov 13.
Ok, this is not that bad because it was pretty overpowered as of now it granted 20% crit damage. This is OP they should of nerfed it as I said before and made it 10 or 15 percent, not change it around like that.
I hope you guys agree with me.

It's nothing like mages. With a 1 minute CD, if it breaks, it is not getting re-CCd.
A mage's sheep can be recast if it breaks.

The reason ret paladins had burst potential was to balance out the fact that we're so easily kited in PvP. We need that to even have a chance of killing someone before they kite us down.
In PvE, yes we needed damage increase. I'm not saying that all the other classes are now fixed, ex. spriests. But the fact that we have buffs (which are now replaceable by other classes) and healing abilities didn't, and won't make up for low DPS. If we have heals that rival a ele shammy, similar buffs, but less DPS, it's a no-brainer to take the shammy. Just because we have support and DPS won't make us replace two other classses. Even with the changes in wrath, raiders will only take one ret pally.
