Motoki
Motoki is my main's name. He's a Tauren, and when I created him, I went with black fur, black horns, etc. Motoki means "shadow" in some Native language (Sioux?) so it kinda fits. And not many people have it. Side note, it also kinda sounds Japanese but I don't know if it really means anything.... :P

Malgayne
Back in the day when the idea of "the internet" was still a little weird and unfamiliar, I fell in love with the idea of creating an "alter ego" for myself online. It was mostly an issue of being an awkward junior high school kid who wasn't comfortable in his skin, so I set about creating an alternate identity for myself. I based it on a role-playing character I created, named "Cyrus Amarin". The character wasn't anything particularly original--Dark Elf who wanted to be a good guy but struggled with his chaotic nature--done a million times before, by much better writers than I. But I took the name, abbreviated it to "CyAm", and made it my online handle.
Problem was, I hated it. Firstly, "cyam" was always taken whenever I tried to register it, so I always wound up registering "cyamarin" instead. So I stuck with that instead, but even that never made me happy. As I got older and got more comfortable with myself, I hated "cyamarin" more and more, starting to feel it was somehow a falsehood, a fake representation of myself. I hadn't
earned
that name. I was embarrassed of it--when people asked me about it, I told them it came from "a role-playing character I used to have", never mind that I'd never PLAYED that character, or written anything about him. He only existed to justify the name of this online alter ego of mine.
Flash forward a few years. I start playing WoW for the first time, and I pick my first character. It's an undead warlock, so I start thinking of fantasy style names. I settle on "Malgayne", because it sounds both evil and scholarly, two things every undead warlock should be.
I used this name for a while, and that character became my main. I started making friends with my guildmates, and falling more and more in love with WoW, even meeting my guildmates (like Rayford) in person. After a year of my guildmates calling me "Mal", I realized I was more comfortable with that name than I ever was with cyamarin. I even started answering to it in person. A few months ago it occurred to me that now that I was doing a lot of my work online, I would be doing business under this name--so it had damn well better be a name I can live with. I switched over to Malgayne and I haven't looked back since. :)
I still have to get all my IM accounts switched over. =/

ruleofthumb
I use RuleOfThumb for a lot of my screen names, mostly because I don't like to give crappy response, but instead really try to help people.
My main's name is Alarikk, I got his name from a Germanic ruler many centuries ago. But I changed the spelling (from Alaric) to better fit a Troll and a MMORPG setting.

DSitC
DSitC is short for "Dark Spot in the Corner". Came from Counterstrike like 10 years ago, when i still played fps-shooters. ;-)
I rather like the name, it's very unique and never taken. *g*
About my chars. My first one is named "Aylah" - a female Nightelf Druid. I do a lot of Pen&Paper RPGs, so punching my head till a good name pops up doesn't take too long. I later learned that there is a rather popular fantasy novel series based on a woman named "Ayla". Well, whatever. ;-)
My second toon is named "Rancora", another female nightelf, this time a warrior. The name comes from "rancor" obviously. I was a little shocked to see it untaken after wow has been around for nearly a year, if i recall correctly.
My current main is a dwarven priestess named "Rakel". It's a nordic derivation of "Rachel" and fit's a dwarf just fine.

emanueldotcom
Since the time the bible was written , Christians used the word "Emanuel" to say "God is with Us/You". I guess my parent tried to make me the next Jesus or something or they where in some really deep problems and they needed god's help at that time. But i added the dotcom tag at the end of the name simply because it sound so cool and makes me look hot.

Wizzo
Wizzo was just a nickname I've been using online for years. I've been involved in a ton of communities and private forums that all tend to a majority of the same people so I've really felt the need to change it.
@wildthorn - hehe, nice name. Used to be a big thing on my server just asking for druid buffs in 2's.
