Auction House in Dalaran?
Return to board index

I really hope that there is one in Dalaran, or maybe more then one, why not? :) Don't understand why they skipped that in Shattrath, was such a pain in the ass to have to go to an other city to purcahse something.

There is not. If you want an auction house, portal.
They are not adding auction houses to shattrath or Dalaran because aside from class trainers it's the only think people use the old cities for. If they were added, the old cities would be abandoned. Also, in Shattraths case, do you have any idea how much postage and packaging you would need to pay for off-world deliveries?

I bet the people who went to New York in the 19th century could have said the same of London, Paris etc., but those cities are still there and thriving to this day. There is no reason why Orgrimmar, Stormwind or whatever would suddenly all but shut down.

Most importantly, LAG. Too many people standing around in one small area = server lag, crash, whatever. It needs to be split up, and the old world should not be forgotten.

Back when WoW was first released only Ogrimmar and Ironforge had Auction Houses (and Gadgetzan, but not many people cared about that one). As a result the large was almost unbearable. In some cases people on lower-end systems were effectively denied access to the AH. Putting an Auction House in Dalaran would cause lag
worse
then what happened way back then.
Do we really want to effectively ban players on lower-end systems from Dalaran just because they can't spend the money for a better system.

The reason why blizz made AHs only in azeroth is because they did want those cities to be deserted. if you think of it there would not be many people there without an AH.

The point is that people on low end systems could NOT be in Dalaran since the lag there would be unbearable, so the lower end systems could NOT go there and you wouldn't want the Northrend server going down at all, would you?
Yes, they *could* go to ORG or SW etc, but as pointed out here the majority of users would be trying to use the AH in Northrend which would then mean TONS of lag in Dalaran meaning that people who *don't* want to use the AH would have trouble accessing Dalaran period. Which wouldn't be cool.
If you'll notice, each continent in the game is in a shared instance. Similar to the Stormwind/IF tram. Most of the explorable BC areas are in one (hence why you can see arrows pointing to group members in Exodar or Isle while in Outland), Eastern Kingdoms another, and Kalimdor yet another.
Overwhelming one of these instanced areas can result in a crash. In this specific example of Dalaran, AH in Dalaran could result in a total crash of Northrend.
Although it is really amusing to be sitting in an unaffected zone convincing noobs everyone died in the crashed zone it kind of sucks if you want to actually play there.
A few months back in Nordrassil the Eastern Kingdoms crashed for an hour and a half or so. Nobody could access anything in Eastern Kingdoms. People in instances located in Eastern Kingdoms were stuck (unless their hearth was set outside of eastern kingdoms). Mage portals to Eastern Kingdoms failed. Chaos ensued in trade chat...it was fun sitting in Shattrath convincing people it was because the alliance won Arathi Basin that the game retaliated and whiped out the Eastern Kingdoms...
