Probably just a predownload to make patch day smoother.
Its for people who have there patch settings to Download While Playing option in the Launcher Options.

The talent trees are still seeing major changes each patch on the WotLK beta so 3.0 probably won't hit live for quite some time. Most of the graphics are done, though, so now is a good time to start making it available to the downloader. Just don't be disappointed if it's November and the patch still hasn't gone live.

Downloading some of it now whilst I can't play WoW :).

I'm hoping that 3.0.1 doesn't hit for a few more weeks... there are still 5 people left in my ZA group that don't have bear mounts and I am one of them!

3.0.2 is now available on the Public Test Realm. It doesn't include any of the Northrend content but does include the new talent trees (as they currently stand) plus some other fun details.
As yet Blizzard has not posted Patch Notes.

This may be off, but I thought it was only with the release of WotLK, and thus the removal of the level 70 cap, that the items like mounts and attunement titles were going away?
