I recently started playing WoW on a New Mac and have tried to add several addons. I currently have Cartographer, Questhelper, and Damage meters installed and running fine. Ive been trying to get Auctioneer, an action bar addon, and a shaman add-on installed with no luck. They are installed in the right folders and have been unzipped. Any MAC users out there have any suggestions?

As far as addons are concerned, there is absolutely no difference between MacOS and Windows, or even UNIX.

I know that there isnt an OS diff because it runs on the WoW client so it would be universal, I was mainly wondering if anyone else had been having this issue. Its rather frustrating when only a few work and the rest wont show up on the Add-Ons menu at the character select screen

The answer is quite simple. Almost without a doubt, you've installed them wrong. Addons should be installed so that there is a folder named
AddonName
within the following folder. Additionally, within the
AddonName
folder, there should be a file named
AddonName.toc
.
World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\
Typically, a bad installation occurs when an extra folder is created by unzipping. This generally leads to the TOC file being found at:
World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\
AddonName\
AddonName
\AddonName.toc
If that's the case, simply move the contents of the inner (underlined)
AddonName
folder up one level into the outer folder.

Do you have "load out of date addons" checked?
Also, the mac file system (being a derivative of unix) is case sensitive.

yes, Load out of date addons is checked. Im fixing to try and install a new one as I type so Ill jot down the steps I take here.
I get most of my addons from wow.curse.com btw. Dont know if there is a better site or not.
1. I cliked the download button and select MANUAL INSTALL this saves the file AuctioneerFullSuite-5.0.PRE.3342.zip to the add folder on my desktop
to my desktop.
2. I double click the file so that it unarchives and it becomes a folder in the add folder named AuctioneerFullSuite-5.0.PRE.3342. I drag this folder to my WorldofWarcraft/Interface/AddOns file.
When I double click on the AuctioneerFullSuite, the following files folders are listed.
!Swatter
Auc-Advanced
Auc-Filter-BAsic
Auc-ScanData
Auc-Stat-classic
Auc-Stat-Histogram
Auc-Stat-Purchased
Auc-Stat-Simple
Auc-Stat-StdDev
Auctioneer
BeanCounter
BtmScan
Enchantrix
Enchantrix-Barker
EnhTooltip
Informant
Stuby

When the game loads up initially, before you even log in, it scans the Addons directory. For every folder named
AddonName
in
Addons
, it checks for the
AddonName.toc
file right inside
and only at that exact location
. So, for example:
World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\
\AddonOne\AddonOne.toc
\AddonTwo\AddonTwo.toc
\AddonThree\AddonThree.toc
If the
toc
file is not found there,
AddonOne
won't be listed because that file contains all of the information to show at the character select screen.
In this case, you've mistakenly set up your files like so:
World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\
\AuctioneerFullSuite\!Swatter
\AuctioneerFullSuite\Auc-Advanced
\AuctioneerFullSuite\Auc-Filter-Basic
\AuctioneerFullSuite\Auc-ScanData
etc.
The game looks inside the
AuctioneerFullSuite
folder for a file named
AuctioneerFullSuite.toc
, which isn't there, so nothing inside the folder is listed or loaded. Properly set up, you should have this. The game will find the
toc
files in the expected places and list the addons correctly.
World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\
\!Swatter\
\!Swatter.toc
\Auc-Advanced
\Auc-Advanced.toc
\Auc-Filter-Basic
\Auc-Filter-Basic.toc
\Auc-ScanData
\Auc-ScanData.toc
etc.
