The costs will vary depending on your server's economy. Heck, even the day of the week might bring the number up or down drastically.
Now, don't quote me exactly, but I recall hearing estimates of about 4000g. I know that for my alt smith, I did 1-200 on about 500g. (Yes, I was lazy, considering I have two level 70 miners.) However, I've made some of that back by having some rarely crafted and auctioned plans for a given level (shield spikes are a godsend for making cash back.) Now that the alt is on Mithril and Thorium, prices are jumping by insane amounts.
If you're just looking for a good epic two-hander, I'd recommend instead grinding out a Merciless weapon. It's about as good (maybe not 100%), and less pain on the wallet for the short while we have until Wrath.

well, i leveled smithing to 375 on eu-silvermoon, having farmed lots of the materials, but, i think 4k gold was even a bit low (especially if youre impatient). as one poster above said, it depends on the server's economy Also, you will need wuite a bit of felsteel and adamantite for the final things. you might need more or less of one thing, depending on the way you decide to level and your rep with certain factions (if you do the aldor / flamebane route, you will need quite a few primal fire for example).
just check out these 2 "best case" (i.e. they assume that every yellow smithed item will skill you, and that you do it till green afaik, so your mats will be higher) guide which totals the mats to get there, and check them out on ah..

according to that last one leveling from 300 to 375 with aldor recipes (for those that dont want to grind bop patterns) will cost
370 X Thorium Bars (or 120 if you made Blades)
199 x Fel Iron Bar
130 x Adamantite Bar
40 x Netherweave Cloth
70 x Primal Water
60 x Primal Fire
If you made Enchanted Thorium Blades instead Imperial Plate Chest, add the following:
40 x Enchanted Thorium Bars
20 x Rugged Leather
primal fire is 30 -38 gold on my server, water 20 -25 usually, adamantite is about 2 gold each, so in best case your looking at upwards of 4-5k just for 300-375 (unless you farm some yourself or wait forever to find the cheapest prices

Whatever you think you want out of blacksmithing, think again, not worth it. This is a profession best done through the levels as it eats your wallet up completely. Had I known it wouldn't help me monetarily i would have never grabbed this with my first character, but as a naive pally I grabbed it anyway. I spent 2k on the last 10 points getting to 375 cuz i thought it would be worth it etc etc. Nope. Not worth it. Now that I'm there I dare not trade it out for anything else as I'm never leveling it up with another character so I'm going to hope that it helps me in the expansion. It will easily cost you more than epic flying ever did, and if you choose to farm mats vs spending money on them (which might be cost effective as thorium and mithril will cost you bout 20g a stack depending) you will find it will take weeks to go and gather it all even though you might be 70. Engineering is much easier, faster, less mats, and has a great headpiece and moneymaking mote collector. that route is much better. Otherwise grind the bg bracket for weapons if thats ur end goal. Good Luck.

hi, i was wondering how mutch gold it will cost too lvl up blacksmithing from 1-375. I currently need Stunherald.
1-35..............Copper Bracers.........................70 Copper Bar
35-90............Copper Chain Belt.....................6 Copper Bar
90-120..........Runed Copper Bracers..............10 Copper Bar, 3 Rough Grinding Stone
120-160.........Patterned Bronze Bracers..........5 Bronze Bar, 2 Coarse Grinding Stone
160-185.........Green Iron Shoulders.................7 Iron Bar, 1 Heavy Grinding Stone, 1 Green Dye
185-210.........Golden Scale Bracers................5 Steel Bar, 1 Heavy Grinding Stone
210-245.........Mithril Scale Bracers.................8 Mithril Bar
245-265.........Heavy Mithril Helm...................14 Mithril Bar, 1 Aquamarine
265-295.........Imperial Plate Belt ...................10 Thorium Bar, 6 Rugged Leather
295-325.........Imperial Plate Boots.................18 Thorium Bar
I made this list a while back, I took the stuff which needed the least mats and got me the most red/orange skillups, so I would be guaranteed skillup from ever item I make. Go to the AH and search. Then you will know exactly for 1-325. Havn't calculated any further than 325 becuase my paladin isn't in Outland yet so it's not to interesting for me yet.
