For starters, my mage is only lvl 41. I've been lvling my rogue main (lvl 62 atm) and am liking my mage to use whenever my rogue starts to bore me. I've been doing a lot of instances lately, SM mainly. My spec was fire, then i went arcane.... I liked the fire for lvling, but in instances it ate up too much mana. Opposite for arcane, good at conserving mana while still dpsing up a storm in instances, but not too good for lvling. I went back to fire, so... yeah.
Can anyone link me a good build to use for my lvl, and even one to follow for beyond? Also, I'm a bit stupid on itemization... Should I focus on Int + Stam, or Int + Spirit? Or a mix of Stam and Spirit? I want to try and balance damage output with mana efficiency.
Here's my mage if you guys wanna take a look and help me improve my game:

Hope you guys here at the mage forums are less assholes than the guys over on the rogue forums...

It's been a long time since my mage was 41, but i'd have to say that Fire will be your friend for leveling. If you're really concerned about mana efficiency, then you should go frost though. Arcane eats mana like it's candy, and makes it the roughest to level (survivability wise).
The stickies have really good specs for mages, and you can check out wowwiki.com for some other ones too.
For itemization go for int and stam. Spell damage is very important too if you can get it. For lower levels i'd focus on int > stam> spelldmg. in that order. That's just my opinion though. Good luck! :D

Unlike the guys over on the rogue forums, you've actually helped me a bit. Good to know that I'm on the right track with itemization. Arcane dies seem like a fun spec, especially after reading the Arcane stickies. Tho i will be syickng to fire for lvling. As for raiding, whch would be better: arcane or fire?

It's mostly personal preference towards the beginning, but after you get the 2 piece tier 5 set bonus arcane gets a massive boost and overtakes fire, although you can still put out respectable dps either way. :)

As the resident Arcane guy, I'd say Arcane can do much more damage than Fire when raiding
if, and only if
your gear and group can support it. Plus, it's more fun. :)

Thanks again guys. I'm thinking of lvling fire as raiding arcane. I have a toon on a private server as arcane spec, and the little bit of raiding that i managed to do was more fun than when that toon was fire. That priv server isnt like WoW raiding, since w/o alchemy you dont have access to any potions, since theres no vendors and AH is disabled. But the prospect of how much more fun it can be is compelling me to quit my rogue, especially after the constant bashing I've been getting over on the rogue forums.
This is the best WoW advice I've gotten so far, you guys have helped me a lot. I've respecced my rogue to a Mutilate build, and when asking for advice on tactics and itemization over there... I just get called a noob and told to go the boring and repetative path of swords.
For a raiding spec, would a PoM Pyro build be viable? Or would it be completely worthless compared to a pure fire or pure arcane build?
