For pvp? Resil Gems (fit yellow), agi gems (fit red), and two agi/stam (purple, fit blue)
For pve? Hit gems (fit yellow), two or more agi/hit gems to get socket bonuses (orange, fit red), and exactly two agi/stam (purple, fit blue) gems each activating a socket bonus.

2 of
this
and 2 of
these
that should get the diamond to activate
While this is certainly one way to go, wouldn't socketing for crit be a bit backwards for pvp, given that crit damage is largely worthless (due to resiliance)?

Having less of a chance to crit isn't the same as completely nullifying the possibility to crit, not to mention you still get stam from the gems.
Right, but the question is which is better 7 crit rating or the 5 agi from
Shifting Shadowsong Amethyst
.
If we break this down:
7 crit rating = ~0.31% crit strike
Where as 5 Agi is:
5 ap
0.125% crit strike
0.25% dodge
10 armor
Now if we devalue crit in favor of AP the agi gem starts looking a bit better, no?

I know this is probably answered in the Stickies and I have most likely overlooked it. But....Does Hit have any place in pvp ? If so how much ? If not sorry, please don't flame me too badly...
It does in the sense that without 5% hit from someplace (precision or +hit) you'll miss specials, which is bad. Outside of that hit is just another damage increasing stat, but since most PvP fights (with the exception of prot warriors and resto druids) require burst damage over sustained dps, hit has a significantly less important role in pvp than it has in pve.

Well, with that being said. How much is a healthy hit rating. Without going overboard. because I dont wanna miss my finishers.
Anything above 363 is going overboard. If you're below, you're fine.
EDIT: for pvp, you want 79. It's the bare minimum to not miss special attacks unless you're facing a frost mage..

For PvE I'm currently rolling with two Shifting Nightseyes which count as two red gems AND two blue gems, in the rest of my sockets I've got yellow hit gems. This gives me the most DPS while sacrificing the least for meta gem activation.

NO
for pvp; hit gems till you are at 79/80 using +hit for yellow sockets and +hit/agi for red sockets (there are no green hit gems so ap/sta gems will be better for blue)
and pure ap scales much better than pure agi until aparently very end game PvE
once youve gotten you're req gems for the meta bonus every other gem socketed should be a red ap gem (ignoring socket bonuses) just like in PvE rogues should gem all yellow hit gems ignoring socket bonuses
Umm no?
1. You never EVER ignore a positive socket bonus that's obtainable with red and yellow gems in PvE (glinting pyrestone + rigid lionseye). Just to slam this point home, I just changed all my glinting pyrestones to rigid lionseyes in my spreadsheet and I'd lose almost 7 dps doing that.
2. In PvP AGI still gives you more of a benifit than AP does. Keep in mind agi gives you dodge and armor in addition to ap and crit
3. Most PvP gear has a small amount of hit on it already. You should only need 1-2 hit gems at the most to cap for specials. In fact 5pc S4 has 51 hit rating on it by itself.
4. Arena's have changed in regards to rogues. We're no longer ignored until it's too late for us to do any damage. Since the cheat death change, pure pve geared/gemmed rogues in arenas get blown apart. If you're not gemming for resil, you're making yourself a sitting duck.
5. Pure AP scales HORRIBLY in PvE. Pure AGI is effected by stat buffs (BoK etc.) pure AP is not.

Incorrect. Straight agility is always better than straight AP for PvE, regardless of gear level. And no half-decent raiding rogue will go for broke on stacking hit; just because hit in a vacuum has the highest EP doesn't mean ignoring your other stats will result in higher dps.

That might be true in the <1500 brackets, but once you start seeing the same faces again and again (probably around 1700 or so), socketing for pure dps is stupid. You'll be singled out and gibbed before your teammates have a chance to do anything about it. If you're breaking 400 resil with sockets to spare, ya socket dps, but until then you need to avoid exploding long enough to be of use to your team.
As for AP being the pvp stat... lets look at some armories shall we?
AGI Rogue:

AP Rogue:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Malfurion&n=Anthraxx
Oh look at that... they have almost the same AP, but the AGI rogue has a full 5% more dodge than the AP rogue.
I suppose it boils down to personal preference, but agi certainly isn't a bad stat to stack for PvP.
As I sit here and go through the top page of each battlegroups 2v2 ladder, I'm seeing about 2 agi stacked rogues to every one AP stacked rogue (only counting teams on the first page so about 1800 rating+)
Where is your solid proof that agi is a bad stat to stack? Got any math, or evidence to back it up? Didn't think so.
