there's plenty of level 70's that leveled up from 1 and dont know their own class.

Thats the w
hole
reason why they have Ebon Hold, it has a more than enough quests to make you learn how to play the class.

The
whole
reason? :)
Some people never learn group mechanics, no matter how long they play. I was asked to tank a mid-60s group containing 3 hunters and a warlock once.
"Do we really need a healer?"
Yes, huntard, you do.

Anyone who already has a lvl 55 or higher character should be no worse for starting a new class at lvl 55 especially with Ebon Hold hand holding tutorial missions. Anyone who can't handle that is going to be just as bad even if they leveled all the way from lvl 1

Oh c'mon... levelling 1-80 does not teach you that much, it's actually running instances with a team that teaches you the important stuff. Starting at 1 or at 55 is not going to change that, especially since everyone will already have a high-level char because it's needed to create a DK.
The problem is, you can't force people to run instances with a group at the right level because there may not be people willing/able to play with...

I always thought Death Knote was a good DK alternative to Huntard. After all, if you have that kind of person in your group, you're marked for death from the start.

I prefer Deathards.

Well, if I am correct, you do not get to have a DK unless you already have a lvl 50+ (It might be 55+) on a server and you can only make 1 on that server.
I'm sure every one "at first" will not know how the hell the DK really works. And then a week later we will see who the Deathtards are.
But I do agree that any one that has no clue how to play a DK after playing another character from 1 to 50-55, and doing the DK starting quest, should not play the DK class at all.

Like Yamanaka said, leveling up is a torture, not as bad as before, but still. The level 53-58 part is the most annoying because it gives the feeling there is no real zone made for that lvl range and all quests seem to be squattered all over zones or require a %^&* tons of traveling.
Level 68-70 is also very boring, but at least in expansion, you can move to North once you get 68.
I have... lets me count... 2 druids, 2 shamans, 1 priest, 1 paladin, 1 rogue, 1 hunter, 1 warlock that are lvl 70 and i can tell you, leveling is not fun. My paladin got stuck at level 68 for like 6 months and my warlock got stuck at level 54 for over a year. I discovered you kinda need to level up 2-3 characters at the same time to vary a bit else your brain just ASPLOD!
I am currently leveling up a mage, she is around level 46, she have been at lvl 35 for a long time (she was my BoE DEer) but i started this week to level up her again
EDIT: Oh yeah, it is even more boring to grind gold for epic flyer. Right now only 5 of my characters have one.

The problem isn't people who 'don't know their class' -- although there are a fair number of them.
The real problem is people who never bother with the
basic game mechanics
-- aggro, tanking, CC. threat management, teamwork, etc. While soloing, an average rogue will kill more slowly than an uber-skilled rogue. But, in a group, an average rogue with a great sense of game fundamentals will be a bigger asset (a
much
bigger asset) than an uber-skilled rogue who isn't interested in threat management, etc.
The same goes for Death Knights. A DK with a grasp of the fundamentals will do alright, even without 55 levels to learn how to cast
Death and Decay

"Leveling up from 1-80 is really not that bad"
NOT THAT BAD?!!!
It's is *!@#ing torture, it is a nightmare, it is something that you wish upon the most hated enemy in the world. You really think "it is not that bad" to go to level 80 from level 1?
Let me tell you, I have 5 level 70's and leveling the fifth 70 was the most frustrating, irritating, mindboggling annoyance I have ever did.
It also took me at least a year to get it to 70, because the grind really was PAIN FULL. I even did naughty things for a bit to ease the pain.
So, yes, leveling to 80 IS VERY BAD.
Huh... It took me 9 days of play time to get my last character to 70. I must be doing it wrong.

What gonna be nice about DK starting at lvl 55 it is lets say, you want to switch to another server, you do not have to start right from the beginning.
Once more hero classes are made, we will see more and more people moving around on servers.
Personaly, I think I will make a DK on a RPPVP server with a full DK guild, PvP oriented of course.

rly, you barely learn a crap about class before you hit outland as.. pre-outland learning......
healer= wonder sometime if needed
tank= learn how to mark mabye and know what polymorphous an frost trap are and what that make aggro
dps= do not rly need to max output dps so button smash while roll on keyboard...
did not learn to really go in instance before outland
OH! i did learn one thing in old world.....to many retards/kids play this game=/ so i rather stay away from instance before outland
start at 55.....well you can always skip training....but you won't get the tiar 1 alike gear and a dk sword;)
