When is Mindcontrol usable? I've never really NEEDED it anywhere. Even Mindvision and Mindsoothe I've used more - to see what's inside a building for instance, and making sure I don't pull too many foes.

in instances as a form of CC, and to suicide the first mob of a pull in some raids (like ZA)
also in some instances of PvP, you can run people off of cliffs.

There's a very long and substantial guide on the official American WOW forums about Mind Control, it's resist checks, and when using it is viable.
I may also note that one place NOT mentioned in the post about Mind-Controllable mobs that buff, are the Necromancers in Hyjal. They can be MC'd and used to give a 100% attack speed buff to melee classes in your raid, which can bring warrior DPS to upwards of 7000 (I have the video to prove it, doubters), and that's a huge help in any boss fight.

tytytytytytyty for that post Symphonica. I havent been able to find a decent guide for MC for along wile, and I'm not great at writing stuff like that.
Theres not much for me to add in terms of usefulness (yes oscar, that was awesome) because most has been said already. As a little bit of a trick, when soloing stuff that has three mobs in a pull, I usually MC one, let the other mobs beat it down to 10% then SWD it and go about DOTing and wanding the others to death.
The rest of the uses are only humiliation, an iffy CC, and a means to show skill.

You've actually USED mind soothe???
Actually I've seen Mind Soothe used to good effect
with
Mind Control. Sometimes the Priest is unable to get close enough to MC without aggro'ing, so using Mind Soothe first can facilitate a Mind Control.
Personally I find MC to be one of the most under-used spells in the game. I can't figure out why, but people are confusingly hesitant to do MC pulls in instances. It's the best CC there is, really: death.
If you've got a pack of mobs, MC one of them before pulling, and the whole pack will immediately aggro your MC target and kill it pretty quickly. Voila, you've just reduced the group by one member. (Enslave Demon works in exactly the same way. Yet I still get the odd PuG tank who complains about me pulling with it. I guess it's an ego thing.)

It's just that after the mind controlled mob is killed, you're next on the threat list and that can very often lead to near instant death when you have the rest of the pack beating the crap out of you. I'm not against it, as it definitely has its uses, but it's definitely not better than the tank pulling the initial agro on all mobs. Then you can use your mind controlled mob and start hitting the secondary and tertiary (etc.) targets so your mind controlled mob is tanking them in effect (might not work well with pally tanks), while everyone burns down the primary target tanked by the real tank.

Sorry.i have a problem with Mind Control. Here in mind control description it says that it is only usuable up to lvl 62. and no more ;and in my realm GMs told me that its a bug to use it on mobs and PJs the same lvl than me, Level70.
Could a moderator of this web confirm that It's NOT A BUG and that i can use it like Wowwiki mention on its web.
Rank Level Type Description
....
3 58 Shadow -Controls a humanoid mind up to , but slows its attack speed by 25%. Lasts up to 1 min. 1 min.
You are misunderstanding the description. You get the spell at level 58 at which point you can mind control mobs/players up to level 62 (your level + 4). Once you get to 59, you can mind control mobs/players up to level 63 (your level + 4). At 70, you should be able to mind control mobs/players up to level 74 (same math as before, you get the idea).

I've tried using it in EOTS, never seems to last long enough to throw someone over the abyss.

In PvP it only lasts about 10 seconds max. People can also use their trinket to remove it. Being hit while mind controlling can cause the MC duration shortened and/or interrupted.

Well, I suppose it could be people trinketing out after 5 seconds, but I didnt figure that to be the case.

The
diminishing returns
rule affects the duration of the spell as well.
