Well,I'm alredy 70 and I've alredy done the quest, but the other day i was helping a guildie lock and he asked if doing the Dreadsteed quest was worth it. I had no idea what to tell him. I starting thinking about it and I still haven't come up with and answer. Even if you spend less money is it realy worth going trou all that trouble?

I think it's worth it, even if it is just for looks most of the time. It makes things a little harder on the end of PvP servers, or PvP in general, but it does have a unique appeal about it, much like the paladin mounts.
It may not be "that much" cheaper than a regular epic mount, but it is, for one, still cheaper. Add that into the cost of spells and pet spells, and it still adds up pretty quick. Besides that, if they are not yet 70,
the quest line still gives experience points.
Warlocks are infamous for the number of class specific quests they get, and overall, the Dreadsteed quest IS one of the most fun quests I have ever done, both on my warlock and on my warrior (where I was tanking the event). Personally, it's one of the most unforgettable experiences I've had while playing WoW.
I do have my PvP mount, but I still got my Dreadsteed first.

When I was going for my mount, the Dreadsteed was going to cost me 100g more than a normal epic with training. With the reworked reputation cost reductions, I'd doubt you'll ever find it cheaper to buy the Dreadsteed, without farming the mats yourself (a waste of time).
That really is dependent on server prices, as well as whether you can find another warlock with the end mats to do the ritual, too. It's a lot easier to find people with those mats now than it was previously, mostly because of the ease with which one can make money now. Overall, mine cost probably about 2-300g less than it would have cost me to purchase a regular mount - and that is adding in the prices of the stuff I got for free (sans my profession, enchanting - and large brilliant shards aren't cheap, and also adding in the price of the ritual mats).
The choice is yours. I never went for mine. But it could be nice to have for novelty purposes. And if you've never done DM, it may be a good idea to do it just for the sake of getting
some
experience in the older stuff. But it has its disadvantages to consider. (Speaking of, wouldn't it be able to be counterspelled/interrupted if you're trying to mount up and run away in PvP?)
That is one of the major disadvantages to it. But on the other hand, it's also affected by Spell Haste. And any sensible warlock/paladin has a PvP mount for bgs/arenas anyway (30 of three different kinds of marks isn't hard to obtain, moreso for most horde than alliance, especially with no honor price).
As for never having done Dire Maul - well, I'm one of those completionist types. I didn't have the opportunity to see most of the Azeroth raids, and likely won't see past T5 content as WotLK is coming out in November, but Dire Maul is actually one of my favorite instances, regardless of whether it gets run often or not. Oddly enough, my server tends to go through "swings" - certain instances get run every couple of months or so, and this last month, a lot of people having been running Dire Maul, Strat and Scholo (I suppose a lot of Warlocks and Paladins are getting their mounts recently, but I can't be sure). Either way, I have just about every key I've needed for one thing or another, sans my Strat Undead key (which is on my hunter, not my Warlock) and my UBRS key (LBRS is probably one of the few instances people run less than Gnomer, seconded only by Maraudon). So really, it is going to depend a lot on your server mechanics, economy, and your membership in a guild.

If you think about it the only part of the quest that is realy fun is the DM event in the very end of the line, the rest is pretty frustrating, specially with TBC and no one ever runing Scholo/DM.
Another addition to the money spending is, if you can't find the right, nice, people, you might have to pay someone for a run through.
Another think that I found disaponting is that after I got my dreadsteed i noticed it realy makes my orc look fat siting on those anorexic legs of Xoroth.

it is defently worth getting unless your server price for mats are extremly high. causs after lvl 60 the spells are 20% more expensive then other class execpt for paladins.+ it LOOks SO COOL

i'll go back to dire maul to help fellow locks any day, just don't have the mats myself, since i was helped with that aswell, and i'm not rich to buy them without needing them...
very fun last part, and i'm actually wondering how i'd do it as 70 instead of 65 at the time

The Dreadsteeds arn't cost-effective at all, and can be a total female dog to get... But it does serve as some sort of writ of passage for Warlocks. I personally got the Dreadsteed first before I got any of my other epic land mounds just because my class is the only one that can have one.
