My first post on page 2 comes off as the user no one wants to deal with. I tried to edit it to expand on that but alas, the edit didn't seem to stick :S.
Regardless, I'll take this time to expand on said comment.
Home page Skin ads probably sell well. I understand that with millions of hits per day, your bandwidth bills have got to be incredibly high. I understand that Ads are *the* way to keep a site like this free and I appreciate the effort that is put into this site. Compared to Pop-ups/Pop-unders/Other intrusive ads, it's not nearly as bad.
I was also under the immediate impression that the home page skin would be a permanent thing. Having a full page skin on the home page for 2 days out of a month is a lot more tolerable than having it there for the foreseeable future (/cough gamefaqs, etc.)
With that said, I apologize for my previous comment and I blame that on myself for not looking into it further.
Anyway, I have some input on the profiler service. Instead of charging "x" dollars for the service, you could say something on the lines of, "Wowhead now accepting donations! If you donate at least x dollar, you get the profiler thingy and you will love it and such!" Think something on the lines of Kingdom of Loathing's Mr. Accessories if you are familiar with that at all.
The problem with such a formula is that you are essentially still making users pay for a service on the site which I think is against your original intentions.
Alternatively, you could just wikimedia this up and just straight up ask for donations periodically, say annually, and see how that does for you. The obvious problem here is that income is unpredictable (More so than the above example, as there is an incentive to donate there.).
IMO, run the ads, turn enough bux over from them to keep this site and all it's features free while keeping ad interference under control and I think you have it made.

I hated the ad because it was ugly. I support the method, but I agree with the comments that it just looked amateurish.
Wowhead and wowinterface are the only two wow sites I believe are worth a few dollars a month for premium membership. I really don't care for Allakhazam or Thottbot. If Zam allowed me to get a wowhead and wowinterface premium membership bundle, count me in.

The plan, I believe, is to bundle all of them together. We'll see.
