Am I hoping for too much?

Hello,
I've been playing for about 3 months now, and my main's (Hunter) is at level 60. I've been trying to get a hold of the Beaststalker (Dungeon 1) armor set for a little while now, with the aim of going into the Outlands decked out in it. I've even been trying to keep my character on level 60 as long as I can.
Am I deluding myself?
I've been having some difficulty getting pickup groups together for the Spire, Scholo and Strat. And I when they do stick together long enough, the wrong gear drops. I've been fotunate enough to pick up the BoE pieces, which are a bit easier to come by, as I understand it.
And what about the old end game raids? On my server (Madoran), I rarely hear about Molten Core or the Blackwing Lair. I feel like I'm missing out on a very big portion of the game because no one wants to bother with it anymore. Am I missing out? I know, I know, the Uncommon gear in Outland beats the epics and rares you'd find in Naxx. But there's more to the game than gear. I happen to enjoy exploring as much of the content as I can.
Did I start to late in the game to have this kind of mindset?
Thanks,
Isen
P.S. Sorry if this post is to wordy or missplaced, this is the first forum I've ever posted to.

Possibly, but this is a game after all. Do what you find the most fun, even if that slows down your levelling a little.
Raids to molten core are rare, blackwing lair a little more frequent in my experience. People sometimes raid it for old times sake.

Yeah..the set is mostly for looks. It's the best looking Hunter set until Tier 6 (Demonstalker), with the Tier 3 (Cryptstalker) coming in second.
I was planning on enchanting and armoring my gear to prolong its usefulness.
Edit:
Whoop, is Demonstalker Tier 6 or Tier 5? I forgot...

Demon Stalker armor
is tier 4. Obtained in Karazhan (2 pieces), Gruul's Lair (2 pieces), and Magtheridon's Lair (1 piece).

While the items from L60 dungeons are a waste, I do recommend experiencing the dungeons as they were meant to be played (at level 60). This means, basically, the 5-player content since getting 40 players together for Molten Core or Blackwing Lair is improbable.
=) There's a lot of good memories from those dungeons, but don't fret about the armor as it was from a time period where itemization was much different. One would do better buying the 57-60 greens off the Auction House in terms of "good gear," but that won't exactly titillate your taste buds.

As far as gear is concerned, yes, the old raiding content is obsolete. If your goal is to experience all the content, your best bet is to join a large raiding guild that does the old world content for kicks now and then. Unfortunately, running the old raids as they were intended is almost impossible now, since finding 40 other players on any server who are "stalling" at 60 is unlikely.
The good news is, Naxx still takes 30+ level 70s in good gear to beat, so it will still be a challenge.

Just something to think about.
While you are stalling at 60 because you are hoping to see the old content... there is a good chance that you will miss all the content at lvl 70 if you don't get there soon. The lvl 70 dungeons/raids will be as empty as the current lvl 60 stuff in a few months when WotLK comes out. Get to 70 now, see all the TBC content, then maybe at 80 you can go back and solo the lvl 60 stuff and at least experience it.
BTW.. no gear you get now will last more than a zone or two in Outlands. Even the early 40 man raid stuff didn't last that long.

To the OP: There are some of us who still play around in the old content. I didn't start playing until BC came out, but I refuse to not see the old content. To that end, our guild has done Zul'Gurub with 13 people and most of Molten Core (we ran out of time, not ability ;) ) with 18 of us. We're planning on giving AQ a try at some point; our guild alliance sets aside one week a month for "old world fun".
This means, basically, the 5-player content since getting 40 players together for Molten Core or Blackwing Lair is improbable.
These raids weren't rebalanced for the increase in the level cap, so all the mobs are balanced for level 60 toons. Thus, a 25-man raid is more than possible for ~13 level 70s, and you could likely do a 40-man raid with ~25 level 70 characters.
