Healing vs. Tanking

Going straight to the problem - my guild needs tankadin. Badly. That's the only spec we don't have, and often times it feels like we really could use one, to help our 3 bears and 2 warriors. Right now I am healing, and my gear is roughly T4.5 equivalent. If I switch to tanking gear, I am uncritable, almost uncrushable, a little over 11k hp, but don't have a single T4 piece (although I am getting Darkmoon Card: Vengeance on the next Darkmoon Fair). What would you colleagues advice me? Switch to tank permanently (and live with the ridiculously slow killing speed) and downgrade myself, or stay healer and ninja some more tanking items off Karazhan, which is pretty much on farm, before respecing?
Right now I throw ~100g per week to respec when the guild needs me, and the I go back to healing.
Also, assuming I go tank, what gear can I buy, if money is not an issue?
EDIT: And what gear can I get crafted by a Blacksmith? I know about the belt, but that's about it...

Is that your health unbuffed as
prot
or holy? If it is as holy then you should be fine, landing around 13k+ as prot when self buffed
If that is already as prot, then you could do with some work on it via gemming like the others have suggested, and ensuring that you have full enchants
The only items i can think of that you could get are from badges, which are incidentally easily obtained via kara (20/22 badges in one night easily by the sounds of your guild's progress) and farming whatever heroics you can get into (tanking shattered halls is a good one if you go prot straight away). That may or may not be obvious, i don't know.
Basically by the sounds of your current gear you will be pushed back into tanking kara and possibly a bit in gruul and maggy, not sure on the requirements for those, but t5 instances will likely be a struggle.
And you must also remember that you need to have reasonable spell damage, i have no idea how much you have since you didn't mention it. Wizard oil helps a lot here granting i think 42 spell damage which is a nice boost, along with food and a flask/elixir, but that is assuming you are able to forego the extra stamina and/or health
Not sure if any of that helps, but i was rather bored and thought i might make a post :)

you can have someone craft this for you, that's all I know of that's useful, unless you are BS your self: Belt of the Guardian
11k is really fine for first few bosses of kara. you don't need 14k-15k unbuffed, that's really way outgearing kara, and yes of course it's nice to have such tank, but not needed. I'm sitting at about 14.2k unbuffed, or 14.6 if I drop some avoidance for more hp, and yesterday mt'd kara, it was perfectly fine with 2 awesome healers. But back in the day, 12k unbuffed with 3 healers you can MT entire kara - yes it wouldn't go as smooth if you had 20k unbuffed :)
Also, what you can work on is running heroics and doing dailies. And getting 15 stam gems from both badges and AH (that's why you need dailies).
But I'd say get all the badge tank gear you can - don't spend badges on gems, and the shields from sunwell island, and you should be more than fine for Kara and Gruul and offtanking further places.
And if your guild needs you to be prot, maybe they'll give you some priority on next t4 items that drop, ask guild master, don't push it, but if he wants you to go prot, that's one way guild can help.

That's me, unbuffed. Still missing a few enchants, have a few pieces of gear to replace... Sitting with 130 spell damage weapon, need to get it enchanted too.

And yes, killing stuff sucks. Grab ret gear for solo kills... AoE though is still fun.
AOE grinding is fun for quest mobs, but you lose so much durability on your shield after a while that, if you're grinding for money, it doesn't add up.
I'm a protadin and I keep my ret gear on me most of the time. Even specced as ret, when I throw on Seal of Blood I hit 1-1.3ks every swing.
