[Fixed] Being logged out while browsing, accepting cookies again
Return to board index
Post by

Not sure what is going on, but just recently Wowhead keeps asking me to log in and accept cookies again. No other websites are doing this. It's quite annoying to log in to the site, try to make a comment or vote on someone else's comment, to be told I am not logged in.

I am getting this as well. Plus any time I click on an image or view in 3d or even when trying to log in the whole page reloads once or more times. It is highly annoying having to log in every visit.

I'm having this problem as well, it started either today or yesterday. If I close my Wowhead tab and then open another one a few minutes later, it's logged me out again. I'm in Chrome, and the cookie icon in the URL bar has a red X over it, even though what's selected is "always allow Wowhead to set cookies". My AdBlock Pro isn't blocking much of anything anymore either, on this site. Like, I understand the purpose of ads, but I have a blocker for a reason, and seeing it not doing anything is frustrating.

I'm having this problem as well (using ZAM login). I've tried clearing all wowhead related cookies but it didn't seem to help.

Yes! This reloading issue is annoying the hell out of me, glad to hear it's not just me.

Might be related to the (unassumingly new) CDN that ZAM is using. A lot of URLs on the page are being rewritten to ******.g00.wowhead.com, which is a wildcard CNAME to inscname.net, which owned by some company called "Instart Logic".
It could be to increase ad impressions via the page reloading, but I shouldn't assume malice. Most likely just some misconfiguation somewhere in the setup of it.

This is some new behavior that appears to have just started over the weekend. We'll take a look into this tomorrow and see what we can figure out.

I find the page is continually refreshing, particularly after I've selected something to view like a comment or my User page. Also, it's logging me out randomly.
I log in using the Bnet button, not ZAM. I'm using Chrome with an ad blocker.
Glad to see you're going to look into it, I hope you find out what's causing it.

I really appreciate you guys looking into this.
I just want to add that while the logout behaviour might be recent (it has occurred to me this weekend also), the heavy uploading of data issue has been persistent for at least a week now. :(
Maybe it's less noticeable for people on fast cable connections etc., so it's been able to go unnoticed? I'm on a relatively slow ADSL connection and have a bandwidth monitor on my desktop (because it's essential that I can diagnose issues like this).

I also noticed incredibly annoying adds started to popup. The kind that takes 15% of your screen. Pages constantly refreshing.

I too am having the exact same problem, to the point where I can't have WoWhead open
at all
because it shuts down the whole internet for everyone else in the house with refreshing, uploading Ads, even through AdBlocker.
I also posted this thought the 'Bad Advertising' part of the WoWhead feedback.

It seems this issue is still persisting. Any updates?

Still haven't been able to replicate this. You're not alone though, just going to take a bit to isolate the culprit.

Steamhammer
So when this happened today & I tried to log in & was redirected to
https://www.callofduty.com/uk/en/infinitewarfare/buy
by the battlenet login button.
SORT YOUR SITE OUT.

Having the same issues as all above, and just had the exact same as Steamhammer, tried searching for a quest, got to that page, then it says no longer singed in and cant comment. So hit sign in with my battlenet account and got Callofduty website.
This also asking me to accept cookies as above every 30 ish mins etc.
Please please sort this out, as I love Wowhead and use it every day, on one screen when wow running on the other.
Thanks :)

Gonna have to add a Me Too. For at least a week, when I go back to a tab that's been idle a while, I find I'm logged out. Chrome on Windows 7.
Then today, I got the most heinous Take Over the Whole Window, intrusive VIDEO AND SOUND ad I've ever seen. This new thing... it's insane. It's pushes the entire Wowhead site down-screen, loads a video, PLAYS the video WITH SOUND and as it's still busy eating my bandwidth and CPU (like 30% of a 3.8Ghz processor with 16GB RAM), the pause and "power" control buttons are non-responsive for far too long.
If this is in-house, someone needs to be fired. Totally, completely, unacceptable.
If this is the ad network, and they've figured out how to hijack your entire browser window space, they need to be fired and maybe sued.
Strongarm tactics to try to get people to pay to opt out of this nightmare will not be tolerated.

Okay, I think I may be further isolating the problem. I've alerted the ad team. The CoD ad should be shrinking the ZAM login bar down below so it's not obstructed by the ad allowing you to login, it doesn't seem to be doing that consistently so I've asked them to look into it. The ad only expands to shrink things if you hover your mouse over it for ~2 seconds. You can always close it by clicking the close button (on the side) if it should expand without you intending it to do so. It should
not
be playing sound unless you left your mouse on it for an extended period and the expansion occurred.
I appreciate the feedback provided here, we'll continue to fine tune these type of ads moving forward. Thank you for your patience.

Hi there, just wanted to add some details for this problem that’s driving me crazy.
I have logged into wowhead on my zam account, on IE, Firefox and Chrome, I have done this on my home PC, my work laptop and my son laptop. Each and evey time after anywhere between 1 min and 30 mins, it logs me out of the site. I have added wowhead site to the cookie exceptions on all the browsers and all the different PC / laptops. It seems to be the only site that does this, even with the remember me ticked.
So I then did the same again with my battlenet login instead of the zam account, got the same problem again, this has now been going on for about a month now.
On top of this the adds are driving me crazy even with my premium account, I am still getting large adds with music playing and it taking over wowhead parts of the screen.
Please can you look into this as I love the site , I have used it for years and use it each day, when I am on WoW.
All PC / Desktops were on Windows 10 if that’s help
If you need any more details just let me know.

FWIW, once you're logged in to Wowhead, whether you used ZAM or Battle.net to log in isn't relevant. It's good for you to tell us, so thank you for that, but one shouldn't work better than the other. Your session doesn't remember how you're logged in, it just remembers "Yep, this session is for Wowhead user SoAndSo."
I'm looking at this issue
right now
tho, trying to figure out why your session/auth cookies go away or otherwise don't work.
I'm in Chrome, and the cookie icon in the URL bar has a red X over it, even though what's selected is "always allow Wowhead to set cookies".
This is troubling. When chrome has that X over the cookie icon, it means it's not saving cookies somewhere, for some reason. Might be another addon, might not, not sure. But that icon shouldn't be there if we expect authentication to stick.
