As a Raiding mage, there are several things which annoy me every single week.
1) Spell Hit: Why is it that I only get 3% Spell Hit from talents? My wife is a raiding warlock with 2 pieces of hit gear and she's almost capped. My friend is an elemental shammy with 0 pieces of hit gear and he's hit capped. It takes me six pieces of gear to hit cap, so I lose all those gear points that could go for spell dmg or crit because Blizzard hates me.
Please link me the 2 pieces of gear she has that hit cap her. Seriously, it takes 202 for locks just like mages. A lock can pick up
Suppression
for AFFLICTION spells only. A mage can pick up
Arcane Focus
for ARCANE spells only and
Elemental Precision
for FIRE/FROST (and frostbolt ghost hit getting double). Simply put you have 2 tier 1 talents that can help you get hit capped for all spells and locks have 1 talent that can help them get hit capped for a subset of spells(CoA/CoD/Siphon Life/UA/Corr/SoC).
And I bet your shammy friend is an Elemental Draenei Shaman
http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit#Spell_hit_rating_caps_for_level_70
2) Aoe's: What is up with Seed of Corruption? Why is it that a warlock can do equal damage to my flamestrike with an instant cast spell? The only way I can get a higher dmg aoe is to cast blizzard which is channeled. All the while the lock is laughing at me and spamming shadow bolt as their number on the damage meter ticks higher and higher.
Seed of Corruption
is not instant
AoE damage cap on SoC (13580) is <
Blizzard
(28950)
AoE damage cap of
Flamestrike
(7830)< SoC (13580)but there is no cap on the DOT effect giving it a potentially higher max DPS

Your arguments are pretty reasonable, except:
1) You must be Frost Mage for Ice Block talent, and go 3/4 way into the tree to get it. Seeing as how most guilds want (and a lot of the time REQUIRE, "or else") a fire mage, and NOT a Frost mage... it sucks for Frost mages on the PvE raiding. Even if allowed, you pretty much know some people don't appreciate you in the raid because "fire does more dmg than Frost... noob!"
Not sure how long it's been since you've played. But this is no longer true after patch 2.3.

patch 2.3.2, Ice Block will now be a trainable ability for all mages.
2) You've got to be kidding me in thinking you even DREAM of having an argument for the almost FULL FROST spec ability to summon the pet... which costs 16% base mana, LASTS ONLY 45 SECONDS, and with a cooldown of THREE MINUTES?! LOL!
Whereas Warlocks have a pet for tanking, damage, CC, etc. etc. and they last AS LONG as they don't die, and don't have a cooldown, either! AND Warlocks don't need to spec a certain tree to get JUST ONE of those pets, either.
Blizzard needs to make each Mage tree spec. have a pet for that element. Blizzard should've made the Frost Mage pet an ICE elemental, first of all. The Fire pet could be fire, and Arcane could be arcane. And all pets last as long as the Mage is alive, with no reagents needed, since it's a TALENT spec pet.
Hmm, well 1st it was an example of grass is greener.
Would be really nice if, during a raid, the lock dies the imp/FG stuck around like the water elemental does.
Are they equal...nope not intended to be. Mages aren't a pet class.
And yeah a 16% base mana cost for an elemetal sucks but then again so does
an 80% base mana+55mana for drain life to get the reagent
cost to summon a talented pet.
Would be nice if they added a fire elemental to fire tree though.
Warlocks should defnititey not be doing more damage than Mages, as well. Warlocks already, by default, get more HP (by far), and ways to regen that HP, at the same time. If they have awesome defensive abilities and stats, they shouldn't have more dmg abilities than a "squishy" Mage... that's for darn sure.
Warlocks have more HP and ways to regen the HP, Yep.
Mages have more mana and ways to regen the mana, Yep
What are these awesome defensive abilities you are referring to? Locks wear the same basic armor as mages and are just as squishy. And as far as you comment about locks doing more DPS well, hmmm going by class lore, locks were mages who delved into dark arts to gain more power. Nope seems right to me. Mages have more spells than locks, more schools of magic to play with, and more of their spells are buffing spells. Locks have more DPS spells and pets but fewer buffing spells.
I have nothing AGAINST locks in general, since I played one (when WoW account was up). But I like balance... and right now, it doesn't seem Blizzard really has the knowledge on how to balance their game. That, or the devs know it, and don't give a !@%$ because they play the OP classes, and want the upperhand above others. Either way, it's not good.
I like the game, don't get me wrong... but it irks me to see some big imbalance issues like this.
Sorry, i don't see mage/locks as that IMBA. Now hunters....

I try to play every class to enjoy all aspects of the game but currently my 70s are a mage and a paladin. I personally don't see why anyone is complaining we all have are ups and downs and if all the things got changed to what everyone wanted we would have only one class that did everything.... Seriously if this game is making all of you so bitter that you must constantly argue and belittle each other, you might want to just take a break. Just thinking of everyone's mental health. :)

Why is it that a warlock can do equal damage to my flamestrike with an instant cast spell?
A bit of qq, but I understand your point. It's just that locks are mindless bots in raids. They only have to push one button and 90%+ of their damage comes from one ability; shadowbolt. And with that single button, they can easily be the in top-3 dps if they're running some proper gear.
LMAO
First, it's not a DPS competition.
In a good group/raid a locks should be throwing out
CoE
,
CoS
, or
CoR
as appropriate to buff the group's DPS.
Summary of the following wall of text mages use 2-3 buttons to DPS, locks use 5-6 buttons to DPS
As far as the DPS part of being in a group, only a BAD warlock is a 1-button nuker, and unless his gear is outrageous he shouldn't be out DPSing you
from the
Mage FAQ sticky
, For brevity I will snip the talent builds and Pro/Con parts and make them into bullet points(cuase I like them)
Raid Fire<snip>. In both cases scorch to 5 debuffs, then fireball, refreshing scorch as needed until boss is dead.
Raid Frost<snip>. Rotation here is simple, frostbolt and summon the elemental is often as possible.
Raid Arcane<snip> Your rotation here is going to be 3x AB, an AM, and a frostbolt.
Raid Arcane Fire/Frost<snip> In the fire build, the rotation is scorch x5, then fireball keeping the scorch debuff up. For the arcane frost build, the rotation is AB x3, frostbolt x3.
Now for a lock the spell rotation will vary by spec, fight, and raid makeup(less after they merge CoE and CoS) . And there is still some art to knowing when some dots should be skipped, ordering the cooldowns/dot times so maximize DOT uptime
UA Locks: Immolate and Siphon Life may or may not be used depending on the fight
on curse duty will cast CoE or CoS, Corruption, Immolate, UA, Siphon Life, then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. Keep imp in range of tanks
not on curse duty will cast CoD, Corruption, Immolate, UA(affliction locks), Siphon Life(affliction Locks), then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. Keep imp in range of tanks
FG Locks: Immolate may or may not be used depending on the fight
on curse duty will cast CoE or CoS, Corruption, Immolate, then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. Move pet in and out of melee range as fight requires, Cleaving when proper
not on curse duty will cast CoD, Corruption, Immolate, then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. Move pet in and out of melee range as fight requires, Cleaving when proper
Destro lock(Shadow): Immolate may or may not be used depending on the fight
on curse duty will cast CoE or CoS, Corruption, Immolate, then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. If immolate used then Conflagrate on last tick of Immolate
not on curse duty will cast CoD, Corruption, Immolate, then Shadow bolt, refreshing dots as needed. If immolate used then Conflagrate on last tick of Immolate
Destro lock(Fire):
on curse duty will cast CoE or CoS, Corruption, Immolate, then Incenerate, refreshing dots as needed. Conflagrate on last tick of Immolate
not on curse duty will cast CoD, Corruption, Immolate, then Incenerate, refreshing dots as needed. Conflagrate on last tick of Immolate

Back on topic with the mage pet peeves.....
I don't mind at all being a vending machine. In a party/raid, it's my job. What I do mind is people being rude about it. One heroic run I had barely zoned into the doorway when someone in the party said "table", or another time (pre-table days) the moment I arrived they opened a trade window without so much as a word. (I cancelled the trade until they asked for some water.) For goodness sake people, have a little patience!!
It irks me to no end when people break my pig, then I get yelled at for the target running around free. Worse, when they break it and keep attacking it! Leave it alone, I'll repig it if you give me the chance!
Tanks who are unaware of their group status are just irresponsible. I've had the tank pull while I'm drinking, then yell at me for not pigging in a timely manner.
And rogues in pvp. But that kinda goes without saying. ;)

Pally tanks who can't manage to stop using consecration...Also melee hunters with this axe that randomly does AoE damage. Oh, and when I'm running Deadmines for free, and I get to try to tank/kill the entire boat because of some level 16 pulling it, and if/when I die, I get yelled at.
Umm ... aren't Pallies
supposed
to use consecrate? That's how they hold threat, IIRC.

This is only bad if they marked a mob for sheep. Even then if they don't cry about it being broken or die it's no big deal.

Okay I have a pally tank and I just started lvling a mage. I can see how breaking CC would be bad if you had a warrior tank(nothing against warriors) but thats what pally tanks excel at. Holding 3-5 mobs while the rest of the group is free to focus or aoe them down. CC is more a hindrance then than help.
When it comes to food and portals though, their manners influence the cost.
