"Then I go!" Whirling about, Exinoch swept out of the room with the maximum amount of swish such expansive robes could afford.

Jantalan yawned and unscrewed the lid of one of his canteens. He took a long swig to wet his lips, then stood and stretched.

Tserya
Blackrock Mountain
After half a minute or so, the felblood resumed climbing. She was maybe a quarter of the way up, and her arms still felt strong and solid. The ground grew steadily further away, but the sky only crept closer. There was still a long way to go...

Jantalan paused in the midst of stretching. He pushed up his hat and peered at the figure he could now discern, scaling the mountainside not far from his ledge. He dropped the hat back down with a chuckle and waved.
"Hello there! Fine day for a climb."

Tserya
Blackrock Mountain
Was she hallucinating, or was there actually a guy
waving
at her? Tserya stared incredulously. It would be just typical to go bonkers at this decisive moment.
Merak, Rowena Morse
Storm Pinnacle
Reinstalling the cigar, Merak reached for a blowtorch to light it without taking his eyes of the now empty doorway. His head could be seen to shake just minutely from side to side.
He would probably have stayed like that for a long, long while had not a young woman entered half a minute later, her face hidden behind a huge pile of freshly laundered rags. "There is no way near enough appreciation for people like us!" she complained as she came in, dumping her burden in a basket. Looking sullen, she peered out between strands of black hair clinging to her brow. "No one realizes how much work it is to keep the villain's lair in working order!"

"Some would say only a madman would climb Blackrock," he observed. "Then again, you're not a man. And I've been doing so as well, and I like to think I retain some vestige of sanity, if one can in this world." He swigged at his canteen and looped it at his side. He bowed low. "Greetings! I am Jantalan. It means 'He who tears down the throne of gods'."

Striding back onto the the platform where his throne lay, Exinoch took a seat. The black iron of the throne rose tall behind him, reaching into the sky of the chamber, where the blue veins of electricity flowed into it, the joining so seamless where iron ended and wire began no one could say. Exinoch crouched in it, the snatched a speaking tube from beside him. "Full power forward! Prepare the hunters!"

Tserya
Blackrock Mountain
"In what tongue?" Tserya asked, though she immediately wondered why. She should just have hissed and sent him on his way...tumbling down towards the ground.
Merak, Rowena Morse
Storm Pinnacle
"You do the leaks, I'll take care of this," the goblin seemed to decide when the order came down. "Kay?"
"Mkay," Rowena pouted. Merak flipped the machine telegraph to "All ahead" and pulled a toggle marked "takeoff". Somewhere, a buzzer sounded, its tone soon drowned out in an enormous rumbling as Exinoch's wishes was being fulfilled.

"Ered'ruin," Jantalan said mildly. "Cliche perhaps but there it is. I assume you are climbing to reach the peak then?"

Exinoch tapped the tip of his claws together impatiently as the faint sense of acceleration filled the halls. The whole castle moved, gliding through the sky, its veins of blue light reflecting off the sea below like the ribbons of galaxy's floating in the void.

Blackrock Mountain
"Yes...no. Yes," Tserya said, clearly emphasizing the last part. "What do you want?"
Merak, Rowena Morse
Storm Pinnacle
"Hunters, hunters, hunters..." the goblin mumbled absent-mindedly, then repeated the order down yet another speaking tube.

"Now that is a good question!" Tharvulius bowed. "As for my name I go by Tharvulius. As for what I want, well, I'll leave that to you." The mage smiled.
"Friend. Enemy. Ally. Paramour, oh yes, I quite like that one." Tharvulius laughed. "I can be whichever you desire my dear."

Telesa's eyes narrowed. "Perish the thought. If it is an alliance that you seek, you will have to prove yourself to me. If you are unworthy, I shall take your Black Rune and gift it to one of my followers."

"Pity. I thought we would look quite cute together." Tharvulius said. "As for a demonstration of my strength..." At those words the mage disappeared, appearing a moment later behind Telesa. "My specialty tends to run opposite of what people look for."
He disappeared again, this time twenty mirror images of the short human appearing before her. "Though I am capable of destruction if need be." Twenty voices spoke in unison as twenty spheres of flame appeared within their hands. "Is further proof necessary? Shall I raze a city to the ground? Eliminate some small tribe seeking nothing more than survival?"

Instinctively, a charge of power shot up Telesa's spine as Tharvulius appeared behind her. But, she did not react beyond stiffening somewhat. She eyes the twenty forms, unable to distinguish between them. "That is not necessary," she said.
Telesa did not have any powerful allies, nor any truly clever ones. She had plans, certainly, but not the means to carry them out. "Before I allow you into my home, tell me. Do you have any alliances with other Ascended?"

"I've yet to find any Ascended worth my time." Tharvulius replied. "But you, you are different. Yes, I sought you after that impressive display of magic."

The instruction raced through the palace. Several veins of light surged with power, a pulse of light flashing up the walls. Outlined against the moon, gargoyles lurked upon the walls. For an instant, the power surged up through htier clawed feet. The pulse faded as quickly as it came.
Then, there wasa groan of metal. Wings creaked and moved. Hunched figures gripping the rails twitched. Their shapes were outlined by the veins of power. The light climbed through seams of metal running down the face like tear stains, and lit the hollow shapes of eyes.
From the walls winged forms took flight, screaming into the night, fanning out in a vast wing towards the horizon.
Upon his throne, Exinoch felt the power to animate the hunters leave him. He tapped his claws together quietly.
"...I hope they know where they're going," he suddenly mused.

"I have greater aspirations than the recreation of my home." Telesa glanced to the vortex of arcane power that stretched beyond the gap splitting the mortal plane. "Beyond the Jewel of Theramore lies a path to ultimate power. I intend to take Azeroth as my own. Will you submit to my authority?"

Though she was eager to carry on her ascent, Tserya's interest was piqued. Someone who had come this far up
without
her unique climbing gear was either a powerful ally or dangerous enemy. "Must be spectacular", she replied.

And I will feel much safer alone
, Tserya thought. "Yes", was however what she said, though she wasn't sure why. "But don't come too close."
If you fall, I'm not going down with you.
Once that was "agreed", she continued the climb without waiting.

Jantalan bowed again. "As you wish." Turning from where he had been resting, he began to nimbly scale the rough slope of the volcanic mountain.

Blackrock Mountain
It was with some reluctance that Tserya, having sent frequent glances Jantalan's way, admitted that she kept up to his speed only with the help of her arcane climbing gear. Vexed by the fact, she had to restrain herself from increasing her pace and waste her energy.
Up and up they went, the challenge preoccupying her thoughts to such a degree that before she knew it they were past halfway, by her reckoning. Truth was, she felt more alive racing to the top than she had for a long time. A determined grin showed on her face, and the distance to go grew shorter and shorter...
