spriests dont have a rotation. keep the dots ticking and use Mind Blast / sw:death as often as u can. you should always have Vamp Touch up. Mind Flay is filler when dots are up and MB/sw:death are all on cooldown.
VT > sw:pain > MB > sw:death > MF

Pick up any mod that allows you to keep up with your dots' durations, such as
Natur Enemy Cast Bars
. As sugarzombie said, main priority is keeping dots up and keeping Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death on cooldown.

While the use of SW:D accounts for a HUGE boost in our DPS, often 100-150 DPS, it's use is dependent on the fight. Simple tank and spank you shouldn't have an issue using it every time the CD is up. Just be sure to tell the healer that your using it as to not freak them out. In fights with weird aggro resets or AoE I would avoid using it.

I always run on trash just using;
VE + VT + SW:P + MF + MB-SW:D + MF, then refresh dots and pump out mind blast and SW:D when they are up with mindflays all other times. On bosses I find spamming rank 1 shadow word pain while the tank gets agro is golden for getting your weavings up, increasing your overall dps from the start. If you get all your timers with the way I do it, and you have 1200+ shadow dmg, youll be never forced to pot unless its a long boss, or your required to (Speed/manaburn). Only time I don't use SW:D is when healers are overwhelmed, or alot of healers are dead. If you find yourself itching to do it anyways, bubble and do it, or wait for ProM to be on you and do it. Other then that, everyone usually finds their own rotation, taking hints from others is great, but try to make it "Your" rotation, its just superstition, but it makes ur dps higher :p

Keep VT and SWP up all the time, if you have alot of mana and consumables at your disposal use Mind Blast and SWD and keep them on CD all the time. Use Mind flay to fill any gaps.

I'm not an particularly experienced shadow priest, but I found that the best option was to firstly apply VT and SWP, then follow up with a MB/SWD combo. After this, you can cast mindflay. Then another mindflay, cut after the second tick to start your second MB (and then rinse and repeat). If you've got some haste, you can complete the second MF before MB is off CD.
Your priority is ALWAYS VT first, as this must remain up to do your job. Your next best spell is then MB, which should be used on cooldown (though not at the expense of waiting for it to come off). Use SWD on those moments where you don't need to reapply SWP, but skip it if you can use the GCD to apply SWP instead. If you're in a situation where aggro doesn't matter, apply VE at the very start on your way in.
One handy trick for if you're out of range of mindflay on a target initially, drop VT/SWP and run in a little on the GCD. Then MB/SWD and run in on the GCD, then you should be in range for MF with no downtime.

Its best to try and get x5 Shadow Vulnerability onto the target before you use MB or SWD, this increasing the damage done to the target and if you can pop a trinket and Inner Focus to get the extra damage.
