So far I've enjoyed the game a lot.
Up sides (for me anyway):
Active combat - no more idiots just mashing buttons then not knowing what to do when they get themselves into a group or raid because they've never had to learn how to play their class. If you don't learn how to play, normal quest mobs will kill you too.
Graphics - they're insane for an MMO, period.
Quests - There are tons of them, and most of the story lines are really good.
Instancing - Everything is in an instance, if you're questing and the mobs you need are completely camped out, just change to another instance, you'll eventually find one with less people working on the same thing as you.
Down sides (once again, for me):
The game is new so there are still glitches and bugs that need to be fixed.
Fewer addons, UI mods though I'm sure there are many to come.
Few help sites and none as good as Wowhead. This I'm sure will change, and I'm really hoping the creators of Wowhead will create an AoC site as well.
Many things need tweeking, as with any new MMO. The quest interface needs an adjustment, as well as the group and guild interfaces. Funcom has however shown that they is willing to make changes in a timely manner and I can see this game improving by leaps and bounds in the near future.
All said, I'm really glad I made the change and WoW just feels completely dull compared to AoC. There are those who don't like it so it's obviosly not for everybody, but if your machine can handle it and you've got a buddy who's willing to give you a 5 day free trial or you can afford to drop $50 on something you might not like, then there's no reason not to give it a shot.

You should be able to play with no problem at all, I'm running Athlon X2 5200+(2.6GHz), 640MB 8800GTS, and 4 gigs of OCZ Reaper. Not overclocking at all and I run pretty smooth on high settings. Some of the video settings might need to be tweaked a little for best results but your rig should handle the game with ease.

In my opinion, and this is
only
my opinion, games that take themselves to seriously isn't my thing. WoW has a kind of self irony that I just love and graphics help with doing that.
You can bring me all the "Age of Conan has the most imba graphics ever"-stuff that you want, but I would never be able to sit down with it because it doesn't allow me to relax.

I'm a big fan of DaoC, which has more "realistic" graphics than WoW. Sure, it's a fun game, but WoW has a kind of cartoony style to it that I love. Who can miss a day without seeing some Moonkin dance in a major city?
I totally agree.
